The Mud Pitt

Posted in Family

Here is a picture of Aaron at Camp Tejas Christian Camp.

He is the skinny kid in the back – the only kid standing up.

My guess is that he is grossed out and wondering why in the world he is supposed to be rolling around in the mud.

I have to confess that when I look at this picture I can't help wondering why this is considered fun. I wonder who decided that boys like mud? I don't really know many that do. My boys like to be clean.

"Like why?"

The girls at camp got a better deal. They got to play in a pool full of bubbles.

I was watching Band of Brothers with Mark again recently. This picture reminds me of that...sigh.

My theory is that little boys who are kept clean by their mamas (i.e., frequent baths) don't enjoy dirt as much as little boys who are rarely cleaned up (i.e., baths once a week max). The latter would be my children. So is my theory correct in your case?

Haha! Nathan sides with Aaron while Daniel thinks it would be fun!

Eric didn't like camp as a kid so I don't know if ours will ever go...this mud thing is a prime example of the kind of thing he couldn't stand as a kid!

Aaron was so excited about the mud pit - but once he was in it he HATED it. Mark forced him to stick it out and he did, but he wasn't having fun. After Mark got home he told me that the kids had the option of going to a silly string fight or doing the mud pit but Aaron didn’t know he had an option. Mark had to do the mud pit because he was a counselor, so Aaron went with him. Had Aaron known about the silly string he would have been doing that instead. Mark also said that half of his kids decided not to do the mud pit. He said it was cold. The kids buried him in the mud. Yuck! Camp was a huge stretching experience for both of them.

Donna, you are right. My kids are wimps. When they are little they take a bath every night (I start this at about two days of age) and after about 5 or 6 years of age every other day. I hate kids that feel or look dirty. Sometimes Caleb will touch me and he feels all clammy and dirty and it just yucks me out. Plus, it is so hot and humid here -- if the kids are outside at all they get disgusting after just a few minutes. I hate being sweaty.

Aaron looked so different to me when I picked them up from camp. I kept looking at him thinking, "He looks older".

I'm hoping that next year we will go to family camp instead. lol.
