Off with the old...on with the new
|
Hey everybody!
I just got home from church and I thought that I should let you know how it went!
The sermon was on Colossians 3:1-17...It talked about how when you are a Christian, you are supposed to live worthy of that salvation...and you are to put to death all the things of this world, and put on the fruits of the spirit, and love people with the ultimate love...Christ's love.
I have really been learning a lot about love lately...especially in the last week.
Have you ever thought about Jesus' ministry and how people flocked to him?
Ever wonder why? it was becasue this world is so full of hate, and people long to be loved, and to know that they are truly cared about...they want to be around that type of love...it is not a feeling love, it is a giving love, a love that acts...That is the love that Christ showed and because Christ is God, it is God's love, b/c God is love.
I wonder what the schools would be like if more people loved like that...The people that are Christians could make such a difference in the schools...all b/c they took the time to love with Christ's love, they took the time to give a simple "Hello" to somebody, or help someone with their books, or maybe just a simple smile...or a simple "How are you doing today?" ... I am speaking from experience...teens today are searching for something to fill the void that love is supposed to fill, they search for it is a guy/girl's arms, or a kiss, they search for it in drugs, b/c it numbs the pain. They search for it in gangs, b/c the gangs provide a sense of acceptance, and a sense of belonging, a family...Whether it is the wrong group or not, it still provides the "acceptance...love" that they want, that they long for. So think about it...if our Christian teenagers started loving on their fellow school mates (not getting involved in their life style, but being involved in THEM as a person...the bible says "do not be of this world" yet we are still in this world and are called to reach lost ones for Christ) and started showing the love of Christ, on a day to day basis. That is such an oppurtunity to witness. Think about it...People flock to that type of love (Remember Jesus' ministry, He couldd not get away from them), Teens would listen to their peers...especially if there is something different about them...Teens would be getting saved left and right, b/c some people decided to reach out and touch people with the love of Christ...Teens would want that love that we have shining thru us...Statistics say that 90% of Christians got saved between the ages of 10 and 25...
So my challenge to you today is this...love...love with Christ's love...reach out...maybe it is with a simple "Hello" or "How was your day today?", or maybe it is something as simple as helping out with something when no one else will...or listening when no one else is willing...
YOU can make a difference...if 12 disciples reached out to a whole country, you can reach out to your town, or your friends...or your co-workers. Whoever it is...remember this, People want to be loved...not the same old "feely-mushy" love, but the love that gives, the love that acts, that love makes all the difference in the World! |
