It's been a while

I know it has been a while.  I am finally home and life is somewhat back to normal.  My house is still a little crazy because we are still remodeling and I have no furnature down stairs.  But it is ok.  Less to clean.  I took Elizabeth to the Dr's and they say she is going to be really tall.  She is off the charts for her height.  Interesting.  It is really nice to be home in my little town.  My chickens are laying eggs, it is really cool. Free eggs! And we have a rooster, that was a surprise.  When you get them they are really little and hard to tell what sex they are, so we have a rooster.  It is nice though to hear the cock-a-doodle-do.  It makes me feel like I really do have a little farm.  We are doing school every day now with Jeffrey.  He is really reading pretty well.  And he is learning to add up to a sum of 20.  He can already count to 100 and by 10's.  He is learning to tell time and we have a neat history book we read every day too.  It is fun.  Having the internet makes everything so fun too because it is like having everything at your fingertips.  We sang "The Star Spangled Banner" with karaoke style from the internet.  It was great.  Donavan is working on building a house here in town.   That is really cool.  We do a lot of jobs but we haven't had a lot of just our own houses, like from bottom up.  He really likes framing.

Our conclution on fighting

Someone asked us what we thought about the fact that there are some Christian UFC fighters and they are happy that they get to witness to so many people and see lives change.  So does that mean it is ok to watch them or is what they are doing even right? So this is our conclusion.

What got me thinking about fighting and kids was when I found my 4 year old son play fighting an imaginary person.  I asked him whom he was fighting, and he told me "the bad guy".  I then asked "what did the bad guy do?"  "He called me names."  Oh, I said "What would you do if someone really called you names?  Would you fight him?" He said, "no".  I asked him "Why then would you practice doing something you really wouldn't do?"  That is when. I started praying.  This can't be good I thought. So we looked up verses in the Bible together. We found that we should pray for our enemies, turning the other cheek, even do nice things for them. Then the thought came that Jesus never fought anyone.  He healed the man's ear when Peter cut it off.    Violence was not his answer.

Thus I began my journey in figuring out how our family would handle fighting. I finally found a family that said, "We don't practice in play anything that we wouldn't do in real life."  The Bible says we reap what we sow.  Luke 6:45 "The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good, and the evil man out of the evil treasure  brings forth what is evil, for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart."  So if you put evil in, evil will come out.

So what about fighting war in or being a policeman?

I believe it is all about motives.  What is going on in your heart.  Are you fighting because someone was mean to you or hurt you? Or even for the sick idea that you like to see others get hurt? Or are you fighting for a cause.  Shooting/fighting some one when you are a cop is to stop the criminal.  Fighting and killing in war is to accomplish a purpose.  So determining motives is the key.  If you think your kid is play fighting for the right reasons and he is not just trying to get back at someone, or hurt someone for fun.  Then ok.  But that fine line is easily crossed.  In my family we don't want to take the chance, we want to practice what is good. Because this is a very violent world we have, were revenge is everywhere.  It is easy to fall into the "who do you think you are to hurt me like that?  I'll show you" attitude. Especially if your child is playing like that w/ someone that doesn't think like you. There are a lot of verses about our enemies and how we are to handle them.  (Rom 12:17-21, Matt 5:43-48, I Thes. 5:15)

Now about watching people fight?  Can you honestly do it and be thinking about things that are lovely, good, pure, ect. (Phil 4: 8) If they are not accomplishing a goal, and they have no evil motives, what are you fighting for? Hopefully not for the pleasure of seeing someone else get hurt. The bible  also says we are not to love the things of this world. (I John 2:15-17, James 4:4)

I just want to add that God can use anyone anywhere to save someone, but that doesn't mean what they are doing is right.  My husband got saved because some druggie said "Sometimes you just have to give it to God."  I knew a lady who got saved from listening to a pastor, and later found out that pastor wasn't even preaching the truth.  So these fighters may be seeing God do things, but it doesn't mean what they are doing is right and we should participate. (Is. 55:11)

I would like to close with I Thessalonians 5:21-22 "Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil"

Praying with my son

Today I was tired.  Too many late nights talking to Donavan or being online.  We did manage to vacuum, do laundry, read a lesson, write his sentence, go swimming.  What a great exercise swimming is.  I am glad I have been swimming.  My parents like to snack a lot and it is hard not to gain weight.

I had Jeffrey help me pray for people today.  I have people that I pray for on index cards and list different request for each one, so today I gave some to him and we took turns praying for people.  He like it so much he wanted to do more.  I asked him if he wanted to make some for his friends, and at first he only wanted to do them for people who were no saved, so he could pray that they would know Jesus.  But when we couldn't think of anyone accept for the kids at McDonalds, who we didn't know their names he put down some of his friends.  It was very cute, he wanted to pray that they would learn not to play with violent toys and things and to share.  He was very excited and prayed for them right then and there.  We don't play with violent things because Jesus didn't believe in violence and because you reap what you sow.  So we have the rule "you don't practice in play anything you wouldn't do in real life."  We are currently learning Luke  6:45 "A good man out of the good treasure in his heart brings forth good and an evil man out of the evil treasure in his heart brings forth evil.  For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks"  A great verse for him and me and how we always want to be doing and thinking nice things.  We wonder sometimes why we are saying such awful things or do mean things.  Well, what have we been thinking or listening to?  We do reap what we sow.

Donavan is at the Kings house tonight.  I am envious.  I really like them.  But they are feeding him and that is nice.  I heard he is loosing weight since I have been gone. Anyway the Kings have such a great family.  9 kids.  All saved.  The oldest in my age and the youngest in 7.  They also have 2 grand kids. None of their kids rebelled or did anything against-God's Word-crazy.  They love the Lord and they love how they were brought up and they said they will do the same.  I always learn so much when I am with Mrs. King. That is where we got the rule about practice in play.  They have home schooled their kids and two are in college one is married with his own business and the rest are at home.  Two of them are twins (duh). My kids love them too.  Oh and get this, all boys except the youngest.  8-1 ratio, crazy. Thank the Lord for great examples we can look to for encouragement.  They Lord has given them a lot of wisdom.

Live and Learn

Today was good.  I read in a book that if you take a few teaspoons of apple cider vinegar before a meal, it will help you to loose weight.  Well, I tried it and I don’t think you are meant to take the vinegar straight.  I guess you should mix it with some water.  I think I am loosing my voice.  It burned my throat.  I feel fine, just my throat.   Live and learn.

Jeffrey had a lot of questions for daddy today about the Bible.  We are reading Luke.  I wasn’t sure of the answers so I told him to ask daddy and he did.  Daddy is always a big help.

Today was Labor Day.  My mom didn’t have to work.  Everyone is happy when she doesn’t have to work.  We got to go to Olive Garden thanks to my Grandma. (Thanks Grandma) That was a nice treat.  That use to be my favorite place to go. I am not sure if it still is or not.  I really like Mexican food.

Donavan is working hard on getting our house all done.  Today he was working on tape and texture on the drywall so that soon he can paint and once he paints he can put the floor down. Yeah!!!  We were discussing today if he should come visit for a few, then come get me later, or if we should just hold off and have him come get me at the end of the month.  Hard choice because I miss him so much.

Oh, I forgot yesterday at church when the kids and I were sitting in the parents room, the ushers came in to get the offering and Jeffrey said “mom get my money” but I was too slow and they left before I got to it.  He was a little upset until I told him we could do it later.  (we could put it in the offering box at the back of the church)  He looked at me and said “How?  Throw it up in the air?”  He didn’t know about the box in the back.  Of course how else do you give your money to God?  Very cute!

Life today

I cannot believe that it is September already.  Time sure does fly.  Before I know it Christmas will be here. I better start getting ready. Well today Jeffrey read lesson # 60 in the Teach Your Child to Read in 100 easy lessons book.  I am so excited.  It took us a while to get over the 50-59.  It seems like months we were in the 50’s.  We had to stop and take a break though and do some new stuff like A-Becka readers.  Because that book is just a little monotonous.  Same things every day.  Anyway, he is doing great.  Today was probable the best lesson yet.  I am very happy.  I talked to a friend that have not talked to in a really long time, Helana.  We may get together on Tuesday.  Her son is the same age as mine.  She is getting married in November.  Hopefully I will get to see her.

My mom and I have been reading a book called “Natural Cures That “They” don’t Want You To Know About” By Kevin Trudeau.  It is very good.  It had a chapter on how to never get sick again (wouldn’t that be nice) and a chapter on loosing weight.  On of the things highly recommended is a colon cleans. So I have been researching them on the Internet and found out which ones are better and why and how much they are and how they work.  Some web sites show pictures of what comes out of your body.  It is gross.  But it gets rid of all of the bad toxins in our body, well not all, just the ones in your colon.  It is not a complete de-tox thing just the colon.  People say that they have lost weight, felt a ton more energy, flatten their stomachs some and lots more.  I think we are going to try it.

I really am missing my husband.  I miss his helping hand when I am trying to carry a hundred things, I miss his smile, warmth, and companionship.  I look forward to when I will get to see him.  I am not sure when that will be, hopefully sooner than later.

The kids did pretty good in church today.  The church that we go to here in AZ doesn’t allow children in the sanctuary so, we sit in the parents room.  A room with a  huge television of the service.  Then during another service we go to the coffee shop and get a treat and play some games.  It is pretty fun.  It is at the coffee shop where I get to see friends I haven’t seen in a while.

My dad has been sick ever since I got here.  He has not been himself, tired all the time and coughing some.  He went to the doctor a week or so ago.  He doesn’t find out the results of it until the 10th.  So we are all praying for him.

Donavan has had a time with his fire calls this weekend.  Friday he was fighting a fire and Saturday he had a lady with a heart attack.  Both were very intense calls.   A house and shop were on fire and things were exploding in the shop because there were propane tanks and gas.  I think they saved most of the house but the shop didn’t make it.  Then he had to do CPR on this lady for a while and she died.  That is hard.

The kids have been listening to Luke at night when they go to bed and that just happens to be where we are at in our morning devotions.  So the last few mornings when I read things Jeffrey is finishing my sentences for me.  It is crazy.  I am so glad that he is learning scripture like that.

Elizabeth is really getting around.  She can crawl quite fast now.  She is pulling herself up on everything too.  Today she stood all by her self for just a few seconds before falling to the ground like she usually does. She can also climb up the step my parent have to their entry way.  It is like a whole new world has opened up to her now that she can stand up next to anything and everything.  I am so glad she already is grasping the concept of the word no. I say it now and she will stop and look at me.  She does usually continue her endeavor after the look, but she is recognizing it, and it takes less no’s before she is bored and gives up to look for something else.  It is really exciting that she is passing up all of the stuff I already trained her not to touch. She just crawls on by without even thinking about it.  Praise God for this wisdom in training children.  I love it.

Chickens and Kids

We are having a lot of fun w/ our chickens.  We have 9 chickens and the kids love to play with them and feed them.  We are waiting for them to lay eggs someday.  They are starting to eat scrap foods.  Our dog, Hunter tried to eat their scrap food.  Silly dog.

nourishing traditions

I am reading a cook book called Nourishing Traditions.  It is a very different way of eating.   I also know a person who follows that cook book but doesn't eat any wheat/flour products.  She had breast cancer and was healed nautrally by changing her diet and things.  I am very interested in the way she eats also.  How many recipies can you find that don't involve some kind of pasta or bread product.  I also would like to get my hands on some organic cows milk.   I might be able to get some goats milk.  I am learning how to milk goats.  I want to be able to help a friend out when she goes out of town.  She needs some one to help her with her chores,

Buzy life

Some friends of ours our moving here to Oregon.  So they have been staying w/ us for the last few weeks off and on. It has been fun but buzy.  So I haven't had much time to do things like this.  Hopefully things will be slowing down now.  Pregnancy is going ok.  I am a bit more nausious this time and food is just not as apealing.  Especially now that I am learning all about what is in our food and things.  I get grossed out very easily.
