My first day of 2008
Posted in Kids-Family-Funnies-Etc
The first few seconds of 2008 were spent kissing two very special people-- Dash and Tank. I had planned to send them to bed with Dozer at around 9pm. But they were so happy and awake and David was in Panama so why not let them stay up and ring in the new year with mommy?
We had nachos and hot fudge sundaes, watched TV and played on the computer (okay, *I* was the one on the computer). They were wired until about 11:55pm. Then they had to force themselves to stay awake for the countdown! Quick kisses, a couple of phone calls and then they pretty much passed out.
On to this morning, where I started my day with this unexpected accident:

Yes, that is my bottle of perfume nestled into a half a cup of coffee (too bad to ruin that cup, it was perfectly sweetened and creamed!). Weird, huh? I can honestly say that I've never done that before.
The rest of my day was spent finishing a fiction book that I started on a quick jaunt to Seattle with hubs yesterday. We had a great time together, even if it was for only 24 hours... but it was 24 hours sans kidlets! There are definitely perks to being in the airline industry. Yup, I'm a spoiled brat. And I like it. (Of course, the drawback is hubs working most weekends and most major holidays... so you can either boohoo a little for me or just hit me over the head when I do complain... It's an odd life, huh?)
Anyhoo, the kids rotted their brains watching TV for a while and then they played outside in their pajamas and mud boots. They had fun with their remote controlled boats (courtesy of crazy Uncle Stephen and Aunt T) in the pond and then ran back in to watch more TV. Yup, total brain rot was impending. But it's a rare treat so they took advantage-- they know all too well that our lessons start up again tomorrow.
Since it is the New Year and all, I would like to mention that this uptight and fearful mommy did let the kids enjoy fireworks in the backyard for two nights in a row! David being home helped their pyro cause greatly. It is amazing how my laid back husband completely balances me out. I think the kids would have zero amazing fun without him... if it were just me, they would only have mediocre fun, with him it is amazing fun. Come on, y'all know what I'm talking about.
The boys wanted me to take pics of them like there were explosions behind them... What do you think? Does the danger seem real?

Needless to say, the days leading up to 2008 were a BLAST!
(I know you didn't just *groan*... you knew it was coming... you knew I couldn't resist!)
HAPPY NEW YEAR, MY FRIENDS!
Love,
Marshie

You did a great job getting those explosion pictures with the boys!!! It does look quite dangerous indeed, and like something my boys would LOVE to do. No fireworks for us at New Years though.
Too bad about the coffee and perfume incident!!
Happy New Year!!!!
Blessings,
Kym

I'd say zipping off to Seattle for 24 hours is a pretty good perk! And you're so right that kids need those crazy daddy's or life would be a LOT duller. And for single moms, they have to step up their coolness. Seen it done....just not me. I'm not cool.
but
that fire was cool!

Those pictures are crazy!!!
I'm not a super-cool mom either. I agree that it's cool to see how our husband's balance us out. He'd be right with yours and the fireworks!
I don't envy you the amount of time you're one your own, but I would love to jet off to some cool place on a wim. :)
Happy New Year!

Love the pictures...although the ones with the flames are a bit alarming. LOL
And yes...my children would have very little fun without their dad. I'm usually the one standing in the background yelling "Be careful! You might fall! Please do not do wrestling moves on your sister!"

Both photos of the boys "on-fire" are pretty impressive. :) The second one looks neat, but he's just too happy.

You make everyday life (reading books, dropping perfume into your coffee, jaunting to Seattle (oh, that's not everyday life, is it?) sound like fun! Loved the pics of the kids. Too funny!

Okay, so you don't have to make the bed the RIGHT WAY... but did you watch the 'how to fold a shirt video'?! It's so cool you'll WANT to go get a t-shirt and start practicing... seriously...
Enjoy them,

You make me ROFLOL!! Love the photos...yeah, my kids' lives would be boring without Dad to do the pyromaniac, bungee jumping kinda activities. With me, they'd just clean house and fold laundry.
I'll never forget the time DS built a potato cannon and I made him use 1 quick spritz of hair spray to ignite it...the potato went like 3 feet. DH went out there and had him hold down the hairspray button for about 30 minutes, that potato went a country mile...brought out the neighbor males, too. And, a cul-de-sac potato launching party ensued. Never would have happened with boring ole mom.

I am LOVING that coffee cup picture! That looks exactly like something I would do in the morning. LOL
And the pyro pictures are too much. Looks exactly like something my kids would do. My boys (and one of my girls) along with the neighbor kids built a fire in the street (cul de sac) after we ran out of matches and lighter fluid for the fireworks. All of the parents just watched as the fire grew and grew, until we finally gained some sense and asked them to put the fire out. Not five minutes later, a sheriff drove past. Whew! Close one.
Life with boys, huh? :)

I enjoyed letting my daughter stay up until midnight, too. Though my dh went to bed at 11:30 pm. Then, we watched the neighbors shoot of fireworks until 12:30. She could have kept on going, but I was tired.
