Time to Take Five

Posted in School Stuff

All too often as a homeschooling mom, I am rushing about trying to get school done. Likewise, it seems that some days my boys are not rushing about with their work, but trying to get school completely undone! I know y'all can relate-- even you mommy's of girls!

I'm ashamed to admit it, but this is what is heard a little too often from the mouth of yours truly:

-Hurry up!
-Come on, FOCUS!
-Okay, now do this and as soon as you are finished, move on to the next assignment.
-Quickly!
-Quit dawdling! You are wasting time.
-That is a time waster. Why are you just sitting there? Get a move on! Your math is not sitting outside the window!

Yup, I'm a regular cheerleader. The leader of the pep squad.

I don't know about y'all, but if someone were telling me that all day long, it wouldn't exactly be the magical words that suddenly made me more productive or quicker or joyful!

One day I was talking to my friend who teaches at a small private school. We were discussing schedules and the inevitable ...

What a super duper idea! I think I feel some breaks coming on today for my dawdling boys! I'll keep you posted on how it goes. If this works, I think I'll owe you a super duper white chocolate mocha latte thingy as a HUGE thank you! (I wonder if they post well, or if Starbucks deliver from an overseas purchase?? LOL!)

Great post. I needed that reminder as things here have been more hectic than usual. There is always so much to do. Don't we all deserve a housekeeper! That should be a law! :)
I was wondering how you put a picture wrapped into your text. Is that hatd? If you can explain it, please leave me a m=comment. If it is too hard, I understand that. I am a newer homeschoolblogger but just figured out how to post side-by-side photos. I would be even better to stick photos within the text.
Have a great week! Thanks again for the remiinder-it isn't good to always be in a rush and rush others! I will look to encourage first and then creatively try to boost them along to the next thing!

About Beijing Time -- yeah, it's nice for people to realize that I'm working a whole 12 hours ahead of North America. Did you know that ALL of China is on BJ standard time? Yep, it is. Interesting. There are no time zones here. Well, there is ONE time zone. :-)

You're funny. I didn't just whip up that search box. It's been there quite some time -- months. I only just now blogged about it. See, easy blog topic -- it's all already done. I just write a bit, and voila. I have lots of drafts in my entries folder. I ususally plan a whole lot at one time and then slowly edit and publish them. That's just the way I operate.

Your new venture -- Heart of Matter -- is a nice site. Very encouraging and upbeat. I like that.

I can definately relate! I was hoping that 'this too shall pass,' but I can see it probably won't :( But, at least I know I am not alone in the matter!

my very first year of homeschooling i truly felt that if my kids didn't cry then i was doing something wrong. school had always been miserable for me, so i figured that was the guage to know whether i was schooling 'right' or not.

hoo boy am i glad that period did not last too long....

Jan. 20, 2008 - Great Ideas!

Posted by ichuzchrist

Boy, don't I know how those boys are! Great idea to give them breaks between time. I've always done that, but I guess I've given ones that are too long. They have a hard time coming back :) Of course, the older two are supposed to be working independently on their work during the day while I am at work. Usually they dawdle because they don't understand a concept, and they hold it for me for when I come home. My dh, bless his heart, is not great when it comes to grammar or math, so he isn't much use in the "help" department. We are working on a schedule now to help stay on track. Sometimes they have so many chores that they "forget" to do their work!

Ooops, sorry, didn't mean to write a dissertation! I came over from nikowa's blog. I've seen your comments on Leigh2's and Nikowa's blogs, and thought your blog would be interesting. It is!

I've tagged you for a scattegories game. To find the information, go to my entry called My First Tag ;) to copy and paste it. When you have posted, leave me a comment on my My First Tag entry. Have fun!

If you aren't really into tags, that's okay, too. No hard feelings. Just ignore me.

Yes, this is definitely a great idea to help them through the work time. My older ones didn't need breaks as much, but the two little wiggles must have them.
Thanks for posting about The Heart of the Matter. I clicked on over and enjoyed a couple of articles.

And, as far as keeping on task...? How did you know that *I* am the one who needs to work on this?
