Not so Wordless Wednesday - Jail Time
Posted in Photos

When I was little, my parents had this framed picture hanging on the wall. My siblings and I would gather around it and whisper the implications of such a thing.
Mom and dad-- in JAIL!!! Horse thieves! I didn't know they could ride a horse! And they robbed both a bank and a train?! I wonder how they escaped.
So many questions, such big imaginations. It all had to be true too. After all, we did live in Colorado for a short while and mom and dad never denied this actually happening.
I am also rather certain that the $4,000 reward must have crossed all of our minds... whether we'd admit it publicly or not. That is a lot of moolah to a 6 year old kid.
I think it is also safe to say that none of us were very good at math back in the day. Either that or we thought it fit in perfectly with the fact that mom and dad seemed very old. Did you see the date of pardon down at the bottom? Yup, that says 1896!
Good times, people. Good times...
I am still so tempted to get a picture like that made of David and me. Hmmm... I wonder if we'd be worth more reward than just $4,000.

LOL! Dear Man and I have an old timey western picture where he is holding a rifle and I'm in a *gulp* saloon girl outfit. My son asked me once, "Does daddy still have that gun?"

Dh and I had one of these done in Harper's Ferry WV for our first anniversary. I dressed as a northern lady and when I came out my Dh was dressed in a SOUTHERN OFFICER'S UNIFORM!!! (I'm a northern gal!) We were supposed to be having a wedding picture taken, and they told us we must look serious and not smile because they never did back then. No problem! I wasn't exactly feeling very smiley - I just about wanted to kill him at that moment!! LOL! I would have made him change uniforms but there were a long line of people waiting behind us and our 'dressing time' was up. I did however make HIM show the proof photo to my northern family when we got back! My Mom's face was a picture!! LOL! Anyway, our boys looked at this really old looking photo a couple of years ago and sat there talking about how these old time people must have been in our family because they looked just like Mommy and Daddy! Too cute!

At first glance I thought it was David and you! I think you need to get one done, after all, children must have memories of their criminal parents to share in future years!

my dh proposed to me in gatlinburg. we spent the rest of the afternoon wandering the "strip" and found ourselves in a photoshop that takes those pictures. They are awfully fun! And I just might have to hang it up now to see what my little imaginations would come up with.

I loved this post!
I had to laugh at the image of you kids contemplating whether to turn in your parents for the reward. HA!!!
My dad had a framed copy of a Draft notice from some Canadian hockey team and he told us the story that he'd been drafted but couldn't play because of his bad knees. I always thought it was true and during my 16th birthday party related the story to the guy I had a crush on, only to have my dad start laughing. As it turns out, it was one of those deals where you mail in a couple of UPC symbols from a cereal box. And he had to choose that moment to tell me the truth (and humiliate me "I can't believe you actually believed that story!"). Um! Yeah!

Mar. 30, 2008 - Early form of e-mail forwards

Apparently, the photograph was an early form of e-mail forwards (the ones that say "this is absolutely TRUE!!!!!"). It had to be true because it was written in ALL CAPS.
Next time you're in Denver (ha!), take your kids to Casa Bonita restaurant. The kids will get a kick out of the cliff divers (not kidding) and they have a Wanted booth near the mines. ...It's a big restaurant.
