Big and little

Posted in Kids-Family-Funnies-Etc

Yesterday before the typical summer afternoon downpour of rain, I walked outside to behold this beautiful sight:

That is my newly turned 7yo mowing the lawn-- hooray!  And he did NOT drive it into the pond-- double hooray!  What a big boy!  Can you see how his feet barely reach the pedals?  He had to put bricks and a log on the seat to give it enough weight to reach the pedals and keep the engine from shutting down (which it automatically does if you lift up off the seat).

Today I was thinking about this incident and how my kids are growing up so quickly (bear with me if you have teens and think that this is when they are really little kids, okay?).

We went to Denny's for lunch today and upon leaving the restaurant, the above mentioned Tank noticed a sign very similar to this one:

He saw the sign and audibly gasped.

I heard him excitedly whisper Smoke. Free!

And then I knew.  I knew exactly what that boy was thinking.  I hated to burst his bubble... but I did it anyway.

Tank, that does NOT mean that they are giving away free smoke!!!  It means that you cannot smoke here.

My little pyro was visibly disappointed, especially since they lit and launched and burned the very last of their roman candles, smoke bombs, strobe flasher thingies and other loud and bright and loud fireworks last night.  Yup, he is definitely still quite little.

I think we're going to have to start back with our lessons very soon.  I don't know how much more brain mush I can take.

He is so tiny to be riding that big machine! It is strange isn't it, all those 'He's so big!' and 'He's so little' moments which seem to happen all mixed up one after another??? I'm glad I'm not the only one! I agree about the lessons too. But at least he was reading of his own accord - something to be thankful for with a small boy! LOL!

Hee Hee Hee! I have a similar picture of Caleb - bricks and a piece of lumber, I think. He really got ingenious one time and used a broom handle to hold down the brake while he started the mower. Then he taught himself how to adjust the hand auto-cruise thingy so he didn't have to fool with pedals anymore!! I love boys!!! :o)

Oh boy do I need to get my son out there to mow. Our yard is overgrown because my hubby (who usually does it) has been out of town for almost 2 weeks! So you can imagine, I'm sure.

How funny that your boy thought that they were giving away smoke! LOL!

LOL!!! Did he think of that himself? Brilliant!
All three of our boys are mowers now, it's awesome!

They would have loved it here last night. I freed us from the weight of 5 phone books and let them burn them in the firepit.

You're courageous (especially with that pond) Mine are so "clumsy" that they'd do more damage than good!

(you're so lucky) *sigh*

'free' smoke? That's hilarious. I never would have thought of it like that! haha. And you're brave to let your 7yo drive the lawn mower. That pond was mighty close...but boys are little men and they want (need) challenges. So you were good mom!

I'm such a girl.

Thanks Leanne. :P

Did you walk out and just see that because he decided to do that himself or did he have permission from his Daddy? Were the other 2 jealous? Tell him he can come mow my lawn next, it should take all of 2 seconds since it's so small. It wouldn't be as much fun either since you have to walk behind our mower. *sigh*.

My nephews crack... me.... up!

Love ya Marshy.

Okay, the modification to get him to be able to touch the pedals is a little more than scary to me!!! I will not let Jacob see this.

Call me again . . .

Hate to tell ya, but 7 is definitely still "little"! My "little ones" are 9 & 12! In fact, this year, starting next week, my kids will turn 10, 13, 18, & 21-- how's that for significant birthdays all in one year?

I actually stopped by to say I'm back from vacation & catching up on blog-reading-- though not blog-WRITING, yet, other than my post on Sunday.

Ok, between your more recent post and this one, I'm starting to think that I've not been encouraging my son to not live up to his full household chore potential!
