Hello? Is anyone here?
Posted in Kids-Family-Funnies-Etc
Wow, was that a long blogosphere absence or what? That's what happens when I get too busy... I go off-grid. Wait, I take that back. That's what happens when I get too busy AND cranky at the same time!
The highlights and lowlights of the past two weeks:
+We went to the lake for a few days with friends.
There were about 4 momma's, 1 David for part of the time, and 30 kids (give or take a few). It was fun and relaxing and I was too lazy to take any pictures.
+Oh blankie, where art thou?
Somehow 3yo Dozer has learned to cope without his buddy and has even confiscated other pieces of fleece around the house to compensate. But what about ME?! What about Mommy?!!! I am SO saddened at the disappearance of his little buddy... his shadow... his companion when he sucks his thumb at night. I even offered a reward to anyone who finds it-- scissor rips, green paint stains, fuzzballs and all-- nothing beats the original! But to no avail. I am in mourning over this.
That blankie has been there for many things... bedtime, camping, double black eye, hide and seek... *sniff* *sniff*

+Dash celebrated his 9th birthday this past weekend!
NINE YEARS OLD! That is halfway to an adult!!!

I have been a bit anxious about this day for much of the year. Not that I boohoo the loss of the early childhood or anything. But the responsibility of raising a child into a young man has weighed heavily on my mind. A reminder that while he is a good kid and we have a great relationship, I question whether we as parents have done enough? Have taken advantage of opportunities to talk about God? To live out a good Christ-like example? Aggghhh! I'm running out of time!
Okay, back to the birthday. With all the rain and it being the Tax Free weekend here in Texas, we opted to stay HOME rather than go out! Friday, we did venture out to Chuck E Cheese first thing in the morning (coupons in hand, of course! LOL), to have our family day. We usually reserve the actual birthday day for just family-- no friends and no party. We'll do something together as a family and have a cake and presents. In the early years, I found myself being so busy taking care of everyone else, *I* never had the time to reflect and really enjoy the day with my children. Now, celebrations of the party magnitude are held on a different day.
Anyhow, it rained but we were cozy inside with our little men.
+Our dog got bit on the face by a copperhead snake.

She's doing okay now but her face did swell up pretty big. We took her to the animal ER almost right away (as soon as we could find an open vet on a Saturday evening!).
One thing to say about that-- better the dog than a kid.
She is pretty much all the way recovered. I don't think any of my kids would've been so fortunate. Ditto when David was stung by a swarm of bees on his face and head last week. He was mowing the neighbors lawn and in the far corner of their property was a tree FULL of bees. I guess they didn't like the vibration of the mower! I have never been stung by a bee or wasp-- although my kids have. So the mere thought of it makes me shudder!
+3 year olds are so fun!
They speak their own language,
they laugh hysterically when you kiss their bellybutton,
they say funny things like Mommy, I bumped my forehead
and just when I am surprised that he used the word forehead,
he ruins it by saying and then I bumped my other head.
What?! You have two heads?
And as he touches one side of his forehead and then the other,
he replies Yes, I have dis forehead and then dis head over here.
Ummm... okay then.
And that, as best as I can remember, wraps up my life up to this point.
+What have y'all been doing?
Love,
Marshie
PS Have you seen it? Have you? Boo hoo...

I felt the same way at the loss of my youngest teddy bear when we moved. So sad! :( I had plans to take pictures through the years and sneak it into her suitcase when she went to college...and then we lost it. :(
I'm sorry you've been flying solo so much lately. It's hard enough when our husband's work is demanding, it's even worse when we get a bad attitude about it. (Ask me how I know.) I'm glad you're feeling better and will be praying that God gives you joy in the midst of the trials!

I sure HAVE missed you. My blog reader has been sadly lacking your insights. :)
That is so horrifyingly scary about the dog getting bit by the snake. You're right...better the dog, than a kid, but still. CRAZY stuff.
and don't worry about your week or two in grouchland. We all head there from time to time. Some even live there, and you Marsha...do not. So it's ok.

Sounds like a busy couple of weeks. I'm glad the dog is healing nicely - and I love your point of view - better the dog than a child!
My sister is a vet and she actually got bit by a snake a few weeks ago. It took about 5 minutes to get the snake off of her. And, it got all infected. I actually LOVE snakes, but this made me rethink it... It turns out that the snake hadn't been fed in several weeks. I guess he was hungry!

My heart just goes out to you. I've been kind of down and struggling the past few weeks too and have just had to keep pushing myself to do the next thing to just keep going.
I'm sorry about Dozer's blanket. We lost our oldest's beloved Pooh bear when he was 3 too and it just crushed Tony and I. It was a certain style of Pooh that they never made again and none of the other Pooh's we tried were good replacements.
Glad to hear that you got to enjoy some fun Chuck E Cheese time (WITH coupons no less)! And that the dog recovered well from the snakebite. Yikes. We haven't had to deal with that yet.
Sounds like it's been a couple of rough weeks, but that (as always) God is lifting you right back up again. Don't ya just love those new mercies every day?
Love you!

Sorry to hear that you've been down in the dumps lately, Marsha. That's certainly no fun. But, if it's any comfort, these down times do go away and you'll be flying high once again.
Sure hope you find Dozer's blanket. I know what you mean about Mommy handling a child's lost item worse than the child himself. Our oldest son lost his little blue bunny once when he was younger and it was missing for 2 years! Then, one day, he asked for the flashlight and said that he was going hunting for his bunny. It made me so sad because I figured that he'd be so disappointed when he came back empty-handed. But, lo and behold, he came back after awhile with the bunny! It was under our bed! After 2 years, I guess it must have felt more at home with the dust bunnies than with us. :-)

I'm so sad for you. I hope that the blue blankie is found soon. I haven't really thought about how I would feel when Benjamin one day lost or gave up his blue blankie until after your post. I think I will be devastated. :( Btw, Benjamin only started carrying one because of blonde boy.

Wow! I can totally relate to your life right now. The whole workaholic husband thing and my 8 year old son also has me asking myself those same questions. As for the blankie my son has a teddy that is far beyond worn down and although he's no longer as attached to it as he used to be I still am! I can't imagine being without it. My heart goes out to you! I'll keep you in my prayers.

Awww, those pictures are sooo sweet. I hope you find his little blanket!
And I'm sorry your hubby has had to work so much lately, I know how that feels. Charley pretty much disappears around tax season. :(
Thanks for the comment on my blog! Great to hear from you as always!

I am sorry you are having such a rough time! I hope this week has been a lot better for you! HUGS!
I sure hope that poor Dozer finds his blankie! :( I wish I lived by y'all... I come search with him! :)
WOW! Dash is nine! amazing! I can't believe I will be 19 in Oct. hey! I am 10 years older than Dash! :)
I am soo thankful it was your puppy rather than one of those precious boys! oh my! that is not good... did the copperhead die?
I completely agree that three year olds are fun! Caleb is three and he says the sweetest, cutest and funniest things! :) Our favorite lately is: "What you say?" Then Mama proceeds with a "What you say, Willis!" it is really funny! :)
Well I hope you won't be so absent anymore! I missed ya!
Love,

I'm so sorry about the blanket. We lost one of Trevor's stuffed animals (Mimi bear) and didn't even find it when we went through EVERYTHING before we moved. We can't replace it, but we did take him to Build-A-Bear so he could make his own.
Hugs,
Amanda

Well. After all that interesting stuff, I have only 3 things to say:
(1) Oh my, you are thinking those thoughts as your oldest turns nine? Wait til he turns 14! Or 18! Those were the years that were really hard for me with my oldest. Actually, it is good that you are thinking about those things early on. With my second boy (3rd child) about to turn 13, it still hasn't quite hit me yet; I still think of him as "little". I am constantly reminding myself that he is a young man and time is running out and I had better make sure I am doing what I am supposed to do before it is too late...
(OK, that was a mouthful.)
(2) We like to have a separate family birthday celebration, too. Only they get harder and harder to schedule as my older kids get older & have jobs, etc. We've had such a hard time with that for the birthdays this summer and just tonight had to reschedule again due to a change in my oldest's work schedule... aargh! But at least we do it. even if it's a week after the birthday, we do it.
(3) What the heck is "tax-free" day?

Oh Marsha, You have had a week! First off, change that Happy Birthday wish above to Dash, incase I it went to the wrong boy ;o)
I'm so glad both your husband and dog are alright, I would have been crying right along with you on those!
The blankie, oh that one's super tough! J still drags his, once white (didn't think that one through when he was a babe!) all around and sleeps with it. I've never thought about him giving it up, but oh that wil be a very very sad day. I hope you find it, there's just something about those sweet little Linus blankets!
Hope this week is much brighter!
-Are you starting school soon or are you year rounders? We're starting right after labor day....I'm so not ready for summer to end, pathetic huh! :o)

Glad you're back... No wonder you were gone so long! :) Looking for blankies is important stuff. I went through that. We lost it and found it again through all kinds of travels... However my blankie boy is 9 and I have to hide his! hahahaha! It's so cute when their little!
I cannot believe your dog survived a snakebite, some dog!
I don't think I would survive my dog being snake-bitten! I HATE snakes! Yuck, yuck, yuck.
I wake up in grouch land and have to work my way out each day before getting out of bed... Reading my Bible helps, but sometimes I still forget.
Love ya,
