Shocking Discovery!

About a week ago, well doing chores, I cought some very naughty critters in the act!

After bottle feeding Virginia (yes...she's my big baby and still on the bottle) and Gwen I came into the milk room to mix Ella's grain before milking. I must have been very quite, because when I opened the window and called for her to come in everyone was still lazing around and their was no return wail from Ella. I looke around the corner to discover Aravis 7 month old triplets taking a snack of our goat milk! ELLA! Silly girl. I guess she knew she had triplets somewhere!

No wonder Ella's milk has been going rapidly down...ever since we put the sheep back in that pasture! Now we are back to normal production. Goofy goat! Naughty lambs!

Just so you can see how big they are for being such babies...

Hard Choices

After a lot of thought and descussion...we've decided to cut back on our sweet Hollands so we can focus more on our milk and meat stock.

This is a very hard choice, but it seems like the best thing for our family right now.

We've all ready been able to place a lot of our Hollands in great homes! Thank you to all of you who have brought a Drowsy Waters bunny into our life and rabbitry.
We will continue to breed with the four Hollands we are keeping and pair of Dwarfs. We will not be attending rabbit shows for now, although we will miss them!

We are happy to still be keeping the six bunnies and hope to continue to breed Hollands and Netherlands with good type, but most of all that make great pets!

If you are interested in a bunny let us know. We will also be selling most of our cages and some very nice carriers.

Thank you all for the wonderful times we've had with our rabbits!
Best of luck to you all!

Sheep Flock

Thought I should post these pictures of our current small, but growing, sheep flock.

These our our ewes, plus Harry, our meat lamb.

This is Amelia, our one year old ewe who will be lambing for the first time next spring. She is a BIG girl! I am very excited to have her.

Aravis and her three "little" lambs! Pretty soon they are going to be bigger then her! Rue and Parsley will stay here and will be given a year to get full grown and will lamb in 2010. Harry will go to the freezer later this year.

Harry...so cute!

Rue and Amelia

Parsley

Louis, our five year old ram.

Very handsome.

The girls again. "Grain?"

We have a new ram coming soon. He is a very wonderful boy. I'm looking forward to getting him...and I'll get pictures up when I do!

Thanks for looking,
Drowsy Waters

Back and Refreshed!

A week at the beach at our church family camp...wonderful! It's good to be back, refreshed with the break away from home and farm duties.

I've gone through our new Holland Lop Jrs. I've been able to get pictures and choice which will stay and which will go!

I've got 10 Jr. Hollands

BB's Nicholas Higgins and DW's Lady Mercy had a little Tort Jr. Buck DW's Omnibus who I've decided to sell. I'm not going to keep any bucks this round. He's got an amazing crown, but does carry extra length and is pulled in the HQ. He's got the best personality...very friendly and lovable.

Before LYL Spicey left I got a lovely litter of five from her! These babies are also by Higgins.

DW's Cajun Spice- Broken Tort Jr. Buck. This buck still has a lot of maturing to do. I like his body, but even though he has a nice crown, it looks like one year is going to stay folded. Excellent brood buck or pet.

DW's Spice It Up- Broken Tort Jr. Buck. A small little buck showing potential, but stil to tiny to tell for sure. He's got a great HQ, but is week in the midsection right now.

DW's Cactus Cowboy- Tort Jr. Buck. This is my favorite of the entire litter. The most compact, wide crowned baby, with an excellent personality! I would love to keep him, but I'm getting and L&R buck soon, and need to cut back on bucks...

DW's Cactus Kid- Tort Jr. Buck. Close to his brother, but a little longer in the ear and body. Very good width and topline.

DW's Mud and Midnight- Tort Jr. Doe. Not my favorite in the litter, but Mud and Midnight will be staying. I'm excited to have a doe out of this litter. Great width and topline and a promising crown and head piece.

My spoiled doe DW's Babulius and LYL Chili Pepper had a litter of wonderful does!

DW's Cactus Girl- Black Jr. Doe. Great width and body. Still seeing what she's going to do with those ears. We'll be selling her and keeping her sister.

DW's Cajun Cactus- Black Jr. Doe. Has Chili Pepper's wonderful body, only a little extra length. Bred to a short buck, I think she's going to produce some excellent wide stock! She's a keeper.

DW's Pepper Cactus- Tort Jr. Doe. Promising doe, although not the quality of her sisters. She is going to have some nice width and a pretty wide crown. Will be for sale.

Before leaving, DW's Agnes had a amazing baby with BB's Nicholas Higgins. DW's Lemongrass is a wonderful Tort Jr. Doe who is certainly a keeper! Although she is slightly pulled in the HQ, Lemongrass has an amazing shoulder and crown/head piece. She is also fairly short. Below are a few pictures of her at 2 months.

She's a doll.

Next, I'll get pictures of our new goat doeling!

So much for that...

So..about my hard choice with Ella... I've changed my mind.:)

Ella is now giving 2 1/2 gallons a day, and we've all decided, even if we have to throw the milk away, she's to good to go without.

Also, I learned something new the other day.

It is legal to sell raw goats milk in Oregon now! There are three rules...

You can not sell the milk of more then 9 goats at one time

You can not advertise...all business must be by word of mouth

You must have the milk picked up at your own farm

This was exciting news to me!!!!!!!!

~Our new little RR Resources Virginia Grace~

My new doe from RR Resources is here! I'll be getting pictures soon. She is a cute little "panda bear" and so pretty and really sweet. Thank you Yvonne!

Her sire is *B T&L March's Ranch Wickedwinner
Her mama is R R Resources Valveeta

I am so excited about her being part of our milking herd!

~Also joining us are Tasia's Montana (a Holland Lop REW Sr. Buck) and DW's Alea (a Black Sr. doe coming back here for awhile). Thanks Shauna!

Well, I have a lot of outside work to do!

Hard Choice

Unlike my previous post, I have decided to sell Ella. Why? Well, it was hard, but there are several reasons.

First, Ella and Jo do not get along extremly well so I've been keeping them apart. This is pretty hard when I have only 4 pens with pastures and 2 inside pens with- 2 bucks, (soon)2 rams, bottle kids, ewes and lambs along with our dry does and wethers which do not need grain along with our working stock. That was the smallest reason.

Then, this year we have enough milk already with Jo freshening like she did, and soon I'll have Bella and a new doeling freshen. I'll I need to do is be feeding two does for milk production and throw half of it away.

I'd also like to go all Nubian with possibly some Sanan in the future.

Ella is an amazing doe. She's freshened four times and every year added about a quart to her production. She is currently givening over a gallon and a half a day. She's had 10 kids, 2 bucks and 8 does (2 sets of twins and 2 sets of triplets). She's never once had to have any assistence with kidding and is an excellent mama, but will also tolerate her babies being bottle fed which we have done twice to get more of her milk! She's easy to handle and has a Nubian personality and an Oberhasli constituation.

Ella gives big kids (she was born weighing 12 1/2 lbs!) and would be ideal for someone wanting milk, but meat/Boar cross babies.

She's out Yvonne's Peter Pan (purebred-registered) and Crying Wind's Footnote's Star (purebred Oberhasli out of registered parents, but not registered).

So, there's some about my Ella.
