Musings of An Earthenvessel
Apr. 18, 2008 - Cool day!

www.homeschoolblogger.com/earthenvessel/

I have been working on the graduation issue of our homeschool support group newsletter. We have 40 graduates this year!! I needed one more picture and it happened that it was from a friend of my best friend. I had never had the privilege of meeting this lady until today. She came by this morning to bring the picture for me to scan. When she walked in she saw Knight #1's sunburn and how bad it is. She turned to me and said, "I have something that can help that! I will bring it by later today." It just happens that she is really into mixing essential oils for their healing properties. I offered to pay her for making a lotion to help Knight #1's burn. She wouldn't let me.

I scanned the picture for her and then offered to e-mail a copy to her and also to the guy who is putting together the slideshow for the graduation ceremony. She said that she would bring over the baby pictures when she brought the lotion. We decided that we were bartering after all. I was doing something for her that she doesn't know how to do and she was doing the same for me.

When she came back later on, we had a really nice visit. She was sharing with me all the ways that essential oils can help even Knight #2 learn how to calm himself before he goes into meltdown mode. I am anxious to learn more.

I put some of the lotion on Knight #1 and myself. It was amazing. It helped sooth the itch and made my fried skin feel soft again, at least for a while. Knight #1 said that it made his skin burn. She said that is because it is drawing the blood to the surface so that it can heal the damaged skin.

She had also brought a recipe for another cream that included yogurt, cucumber, ice and essential lavender oil. I put all that into the blender and mixed it all together. However when I tried to put it on Knight #1's back he said it was too cold. So I put it into the microwave for about a minute to tone it down. It WAS really cold before that! Think of cucumber and yogurt slushie, being smeared on your back! yikes! So I was able to get some onto his back, but then he started screaming that it burned. I put some on my own burn and yes it burned some but not worth screaming over. I think he was being overly dramatic, which he tends to do. Then again his burn is deeper than mine.

Daddy said to let him alone after that. So I am praying that what I was able to do will help the skin start healing more quickly.
