Knight # 2 is on Adderall XR which is a controlled substance. Therefore we have to go see the doctor every 3 months or so to check in and get a new Rx. So I took him today. I told the dr. that I have been asking Knight #2 a lot lately if he took his meds that morning. Daddy as asked a few times too. So we discussed increasing his dosage. I asked the dr. if it is possible that he is on too high a dose and it could be causing the opposite reaction. He said this is possible. So he upped the dose from 30 mg to 40 mg but given in 20 mg pills. This way I can give Knight #2 a 20mg pill and if it doesn't seem to be doing the job then I can give him the second later in the day.
Also I asked the dr. to get Knight #2s weight. I figured he weighed in the 30's, he is such a tiny guy. But we were pleasantly surprised to find that he weighs almost 49 lbs!
My son takes a small dose of ritalin (20 mg) each morning. I have noticed a big difference since he began taking this in his concentration level! I'm so thankful that we started using this.
Has the dose twice a day helped you? Sometimes I wonder if we need to use a second dose in the afternoon.
Blessings,
Pam
I had thought and told the Dr. that he was taking 30mg every morning. When I looked this morning, I realized it is 20mg! Also the insurance refused to pay for 60 pills so I was only able to get 30. This means that I am going to have to get a new Rx. :o( I guess at least we know that he is not getting too high a dose! I gave him two 20mg pills this morning and that seems to be really helping him. He was able to stay more focused on his school work this morning than he has in a long time. He even told me when we were done, "This was my best day of school ever!" I would definitely discuss this with your son's Dr. before making any changes to his dosage.
A blog of whatever is on my heart and mind that day, particularly in context of being a homeschool mom. Hopefully it will be an encouragement to homeschoolers and also those who don't homeschool.
