Our church had an evangelism conference this weekend. I wanted to go but when the time came I really wanted to stay home instead. DH told me that he REALLY wanted me to go, soooo I went. He stayed home with the kids since he has already attended several classes in evangelism. I am very glad I went.
Last night was awesome. The guy that is in charge of the group at our church that goes out every Friday night to do street evangelism shared about God's love for people. He also shared about how he at one time asked God to help him to see the lost how God sees them. He said that God really broke his heart for the lost by giving him a new insight into the fate of the lost. He said it seemed that was all he could think about; the fact that all these people who don't know Jesus are headed for an eternity in hell. That gave him fresh motivation to get out there and share his faith. I love what he said, "I don't believe that we humans could handle the full burden of God's heartbreak for the lost. I believe it would literally kill us. But how wicked of us not to accept at least a portion of that burden." Then he gave us all an opportunity to go to the altar and pray for a portion of God's burden for the lost.
Then a guy named, Darrel Rundus spoke to us about facing your fears when evangelizing. It was a very encouraging talk.
Today, Mark Cahill, author of "One Heartbeat Away" and "One Thing You Can't Do in Heaven" spoke to us. Wow!!! It was awesome! He shared a lot of "nuts and bolts" of how to share your faith. He also did a lot of asking us for answers to different questions. For example, he would ask, "Say someone says that the Bible was written by men. What is the Biblical response to that?" Then we would raise our hands and he would pick someone who would share a Bible verse that speaks to that.
There was then a question and answer session with both Mark Cahill and Darrel Rundus. We broke for lunch and then had 2 workshop sessions in which there were 5 topics to choose from.
I was fighting a migraine most of the day. I had a feeling one was coming on so I had taken my Rx with me. It took the edge off but I was still hurting. I think that Satan did not want me learning this stuff and much less putting it into practice! I am not letting him stop me though!
Mark Cahill had his books there that we could have for whatever donation we felt lead to give. I got "One Heartheat Away". I gave it to my next door neighbor who is a single older man. When I drove up at home, he was standing out talking to my across the street neighbor, who I know is a strong Christian. I asked John if he goes to church anywhere. He said, "Um no" So I asked him if he would like a book to read and he said, "sure". I wish I had been more bold to do more, but that will come with practice. Also, I was sort of butting into their conversation and had been fighting a migraine. He did ask me about where we go to church and also asked our other neighbor about where she goes to church. I hope that he does read the book.
