Jul. 13, 2007~ Nature Studies ~
Nature Studies
The world is so full of a number of things,
I'm sure we should all be as happy as kings.
-- Robert Louis Stevenson.
I have recently become interested in doing nature studies with my kids. I’m not sure when we will fit it in to our crazy schedule, but that is part of
the point.I really desire a more relaxed lifestyle with my children and how much more relaxed can you get than studying nature?Anyways, this is where I am storing what I learn and find about nature studies.I hope some one else will be blessed by it.
Some things I have learned is:
♦Allow children to explore nature often.
♦Nature studies help with observation skills.
♦Let their journals be their own.
♦Don’t grade the journals!!!!
♦Help the child discover nature on their own.
♦Don’t forget about the nature in your own back yard.
♦Study nature through all the seasons.
♦Don’t forget that weather, rocks and the night sky are apart of nature.
Here are some nature pages that I made that I wanted to share.I hope they will help someone.Hint: if you think you may want to use them in the future please go head and download them, I’m not sure how long this file storage lasts.
Very nice and I'm sure your children will enjoy them. We started by studying Carl Linnaues and Sunflowers, a biological illustration he did. We came back to it a few days ago and the kids had a wonderful time dissecting sunflowers. We found a worm that had burrowed into the stem, two little orange and a teency worm on the flower head, as well as the developing seed inside.

eNature happens to be one of my favorites.
Here's a camera tip my sister taught me. If there is enough light in the exhibit, try going without the flash. We got a fancy digital camera with low light settings that my 11 yo figured out before I did. :o) The trick with the low light setting is you have to hold the camera pretty still while the picture is captured. When we took pictures of the lunar eclipse a few months ago, I used a tripod to deal with the steadiness issue.
Peace and Laughter,
Cristina
