Jul. 15, 2007~ Sunday Seven ~
I haven't done one of these for a while. I'll confess, I have not really very thankful. Well, that's just the reason why I need to do this post. Part of the problem is everything seems a little overwhelming right now. The other part is, I've been stuck in the house most of the summer and nothing new has really happened and I don't want to keep repeating the same things over and over, it kinda looses something if you do that. So here goes:
1. This is my first and foremost right now. While at the doctors this week with Little One she was asking for medical background and I was struck again at how fortunate we are. I know that seems a little strange since Little One has had lots of problems and has really had a lot go on. But it could have been so much worse. We were reminded yet again, that most children with microcephaly are mentally retarded and have a lot of developmental problems, the doctor taking down his medical history was surprised when we said he was not delayed. I'm also thankful for the fact that some kids with a c-2, c-3 vertebrae fusion have problems with their kidneys, but yet again we seemed to have missed that bullet. The ultrasound that they did a few years ago showed no problems with any of his vital organs. We are also fortunate that the fusion was his c-2, c-3 vertebrae instead of his c-1, c-2 (only one above it). If it has been the c-1, c-2 he would have had very limited movement in his neck. Basically he would not be able to really turn his head very well at all. Instead, we have a child that is extremely active and has full use of his neck and head.
2. I am really thankful that we have one of the best Children's Hospitals in the country so close to us. We live only an hour away. Even thought the drive gets really annoying at times, I am really thankful it is there.
3. I am really thankful that we were able to get into one of the best doctors in Pediatric GI and in such a short amount of time. The doctor is listed as one of the best doctors in the USA. Wow! When I told my other son's therapist who Little One was seeing her mouth dropped open and said "He's like, the best!"
4. I am really thankful for my mom. She has been helping with watching my other child as I take the other when they have to see a specialist. It is so helpful to be able to concentrate on the one child and what the doctor is telling me. She and my dad will be watching my oldest if we end up staying at the hospital, since this is like his second home, I will not have to worry at all about him while I am gone. She will also be watching my children as I go to the doctor and try to do something about my health.
5. I am thankful that my hubby is involved in the children's lives. He took off work last Monday to go to Little One's appointment and he is taking off work tomorrow. If Little One has to stay at the hospital, he is planning on staying also.
6. I am thankful that my Husband has a boss that let's him have time off for family obligations. My husband tries not to abuse it, but he really feels like when it is an important meeting with the doctors that he needs to be there.
7. On a totally different topic, I am thankful for the rain and slightly cooler temperatures that we have had. Our grass was getting really brown and I can only imagine the losses the farmers are suffering. We were really needing the rain.
