Oct. 18, 2007~ Our 1st Nature Walk ~
Ok, it's not like we never went on a nature walk. Sure we've walked through the woods or picked up leaves before, but this is the first of what I hope to be a semi regular habit where my children learn to enjoy and observe nature. Yesterday was beautiful! It was in the mid to high 70's. Perfect day for a short walk. I chose our neighborhood as the site for our first walk. This is where we will do most of them.
Our neighborhood is a typical suburban neighborhood with normal size lots. It's a slightly mature neighborhood, most of the houses are about 40 years old. It has a lot of mature trees, so there is variety and even some small wildlife. We regularly see bunnies, squirrels and chipmunks. There is also a variety of birds.
Right now in our area it is a cross between summer and fall. It's obvious that fall is coming, but a lot of the trees are still green. Yesterday PC and LO had bags and they were going to collect "signs of fall". Two neighbor kids joined us to "help" us. lol!!! PC got a little side tracked looking for 4 leaf clovers and PC did find two 4 leaf clovers and a five leaf clover. One didn't survive.
This child has a nack for finding 4- leaf clovers!!!!
Here are a few more pictures....
Here is Little One's bag of autumn stuff (with some help from the younger neighbor kid.
Here is Prince Caspian's bag.
There are more pictures in the slide show. I hope you enjoy them!
I'll comment as the Happy Camper on nature walks! (lol)
This is a great effort! I love the bags! We are in a similar state of partly summer and fall. The rains last night made a lot of leaves fall, so it looks more fall-ish now. If only it was not going to be 80 today.

This was a FUN post ! [0= I enjoyed seeing part of your nature walk. I think I saw your hand ! More than I have before. I love how you put it in the fall theme frame.
What a fun nature walk : ) The fall leaves are so pretty in all their reds and yellows. What are you going to do with your baggie of stuff collected on your walk?
Blessings,
Rosina
Hi Lynn,
Litte One finds 4 leaf clovers! I don't think I ever have done that. Nature walks are so much fun and it's good to be outside. I enjoy them with my grandchildren.
You guys got some great stuff. I love this time of year -- there is so much to see and the leaves are beautiful. DD went out before 7am this morning and did a "hearing" nature walk. We heard the birds wake up, an owl, and even roosters from down the road!
I have to live vicariously through everyone's photos of beautifully colored autumn leaves - we don't get to enjoy that here in FL. Looks like all the kids found some great things!
My oldest loves to search for four leaf clovers as well.
Very nice nature walk and post. I can see how special you make your children feel. You are a great mom!
P.S. I was very surprised to come here and find such a beautiful and well done new blog. Way to go Lynn! Very creative!
Thank you so much for the nice sweet c-box comments you took the time to post while I was on vacation.
((((brazilian hugs))))
Hehe! One of my friends WILL NOT believe that four leaf clovers exist. I've tried to find one for several years so I can show him that, yes, they do exist.
Oh, what a wonderful show & tell. We did this when the kids were much younger. Loved pressing the leaves too. What a wonderful S&T, and a wonderful walk down memory lane.
I'm so happy you still can take a nature walk! You found some very wonderful stuff. What do you plan to do with your treasures?
Blessings on your day,
Jenny
What a wonderful time. Did you know that once you find a four leaf clover, if you keep looking closely in the same place you will likely find more?. It seems to be a genetic thing. If it's your yard, mark it, and keep going back to look for more!
So funny about you and me and dodgeball. Never was fun when the boys played. And how awful about your classmate. uh. We had two guys in my senior class who went up north and robbed a gas station and one was killed in the process. So strange. They were just these nice, quiet guys in a small suburban school district.
Thanks for comment on the flowers. Glad you enjoyed them.
