Mar. 24, 2008~ Tightwad Tuesday- Duct Tape Edition ~
I could not think of anything for Tightwad Tuesday, so I decided to be a little silly! So this post is about Duct Tape and how it can save you money!!!
Seriously, it is better to fix things than buy new if possible and I have found duct tape to be handy on occasion. Example, my son had to wear a brace for 7 1/2 months and about month 4 it started tearing up really bad. I guess he was just too active for it. The shop that sells and fits braces tried several times to fix it (with special glue). The problem was the plastic was cracking and the crack just continues to get larger. I decided to try duct tape. It worked like a charm. Luckily, duct tape now comes in colors and we were able to get white instead of silver and it didn't stand out bad. To replace the brace, it would have been over $700.00 and I doubt insurance would have paid, so the way I figure it, duct tape save us a whole bunch of money. Here is a picture of the brace.
I have also stabilized our table with duct tape. So do you have any duct tape stories??? I'd love to hear them! lol!

When I was a little girl, our only car was in a really bad accident leaving it unusable. My little brother (about 3 yrs old) said to my mom who was crying,
"Don't worry mom we can fix it with the duct tape"
Yes we used duct tape to fix almost everything when we were kids. Unfortunately the car needed a lot more help that the duct tape could offer. But the comment did cheer my mom up a bit, and we still use that saying when things are looking pretty bad today.
I used it to fix my Bible's binding. I love that Bible and did not want to get a new one. (They are so hard to break in!) I love duct tape. We are out, so I need to put it on my list. We have borrowed books at the library about things you can make with it, too. Fun stuff.

This was a funny post. I liked reading what others did. Sorry, I don't have any use for it, beside the normal. But I might try your leveling out a table thing. Never thought of that. :)

We used duct tape on the boys' feet when they did detassling work in Nebr last summer, it acts as a barrier from moisture, plus helps prevent blisters on feet.
We have a few squeaky dining chairs, how did you fix your table?
of MacGyver. Not sure of the spelling on that one; but he used duct tape for everything! I was just thinking the other day that I need to pick up another roll; as I can never find ours when I need it. Cute post!
My Aunt sent me a book called "the jumbo Duct Tape book" On the front of the book it says, "wacky and tacky. The Gigantic, Exhaustive, Really Thick, Ultra Informative, Mother-of-em-all Book by Jim and Tim, The Duct Tape Guys." ROTFL. I must say, although it is written in comical format, it has came in very handy from time to time. ;o)
Oh I remember this. I had to give you a link to a VERY Canadian show and he uses so much duct tape that the show is sponsered by a duct tape compmany. lol

I hope you get a good chuckle over these you tubes.
We're big fans of Red Green (I think that's who CanadaGirl linked with the video) and agree that duct tape should be standard supply in any home. My uses of duct tape include: picking up broken glass from the floor, pull out splinters, reinforce shoes and sports equipment, and repair any number of things - most recently the "rail" inside my fridge door which keeps falling off. I want a new fridge but can only afford duct tape at this point. ;~)
Okay, here's try to at commenting...1st try apparently disappeared into cyberland? Anyway, a few Christmases ago I got a book titled, "101 uses for duct tape" (or something like that.) It was great! I gave it with a roll of tape to several of the men on our shopping list. But the funniest thing we use it for is to tape feet so they won't blister when detasseling corn.
...can be used to get rid of warts (just stick it to the wart and leave it on about 48 hours, replacing it several times after 48 hours). The idea is that your skin will have a local reaction to the tape and also start seeing that this wart is a bad thing too. I've seen one patient that it did well with. Another patient couldn't get it to stick to her skin. Can you imagine?
...can hold together a shoe that the sole is flopping off of.
...makes a great red cross symbol on tubs and such for outreach travel. This way I can find which containers hold my medical equipment and meds.
...has been used to reattach many a Bible cover that has fallen off from heavy use - especially on outreach!
One last note along this line. If you plan an outreach to a foreign country, you can put some duct tape wrapped in layers around your nalgene bottle to keep you from having to pack a whole roll, and it will always be handy to find when you need it! This is especially useful for trekking trips and other journeys where you must pack light.
This has gotten so long, I will have to make a post of it!
