Dec. 15, 2008~ Tightwad Tuesday ~
Hello!!! I hope you all had a great weekend! Ours was good. On Saturday, we took Little One to see Santa, but PC didn't want to go. He was afraid a friend might see him! lol!!! So we picked up PC afterward and took him out to dinner and boy were the children wild!!! I guess they are getting Christmas-itis.
Tightwad tip: use your leftovers!!! On Thanksgiving, we had dinner with Hubby's brother, wife and kid's house. After the dinner, his wife was going to through what was left of the turkey in the garbage. We could see that there was still meat on it. Luckily, Hubby spoke up and saved the bird. lol!!! So, we took it home and we got like 3 meals off of it. First, we had just a turkey dinner, then we had at least 2 servings of cream of turkey with it. And we still have 3 cups of broth from it in the freezer. A week ago, Hubby tried to pick up a cooked chicken from a local store but they were out of them. Because it was before 7:00, the store gave him a coupon for a free cooked chicken which was redeemed yesterday. First we ate a meal of chicken (with a few side dishes) and tonight we had chicken and dumplings from it and we will probably have at least one, maybe two more meals of chicken and dumplings off of this free bird. Always see if you can stretch you food out with leftovers. Even if there is just enough for one person, it's still can be saved.
What would we do without leftovers?! I actually plan meals ahead and make more than necessary on non busy days. Our family is use to meals made with leftovers...so much so that my oldest sons girlfriend ask when we are having them because she says our left overs are the best she has ever had! Great tips.
I am just learning to do this the problem is that we often do not have leftovers so I am learning to cook enough for 2 meals at once so that I can put one up for another time. This is normally the only way we have leftovers
