Educating Emme

Planning Ahead
Em starts 4th grade in September. The big leagues! 4th grade is when school turns more serious and teachers generally expect more out of their students.

Since I am a working mom now, I will be enlisting the help of a good friend! She has agreed to be Em's teacher twice a week (details are yet to be worked out).

Here are my beginning plans for our first quarter:

Religion: Keys for Kids daily devotions and Bible Discovery: In the Beginning

Arithmetic: Times Tales (yes we are behind in math) and basic review

Handwriting/Copywork: Copywork for Animal Lovers from Queen Homeschool

Reading: Black Beauty, Alice in Wonderland (more to come)

Science: Apologia Zoology Land Animals of the 6th Day

History: Michigan History, asst. books

English/Grammar: Language Lessons for the Elementary Child from Queen Homeschool, Wordly Wise 4

More to come!

Sherry

I just love Apologia! My daughter (8th grade) has used it from the beginning. Excellent curriculum. May I reccomend the book 100 Top Picks for Homeschool Curriculum by Cathy Duffy? Not only does it list the top 100 curriculums, but it also helps pinpoint the aprent's and the child's learning styles, among other things. Don't worry about being behind in math. Behind what, exactly? Kids learn at their own pace, it's one of the beauties of home education. I promise you she will not go off to college still guessing at her times tables facts. She'll get them when she's ready. Really, the best way to learn them is still memorization.
Also? Ignore the naysayers, for they know not of what they speak. You are doing a great job.

I just re-read my comment. Some homeschool spokesperson I am! What grammar! LOL I guess I am also the creator of run-on sentences and abuser of puncuation.
Have a great day Sherry!
