Confessions of a Homeschool Mom

Dec. 9, 2006

Which way is right?

I have been following the Hallelujah Diet for about 2 months now.  Very little meat ( I only eat venison, and not much of that), no white flour, no white sugar, lots of raw vegetables and lots of salad.  I've done okay with it and lost maybe 10 or 15 pounds.  I actually have gotten used to eating this way and my energy level has increased and I feel good.

But I've just gotten my hands on a book called "Eat Fat, Lose Fat" and I am intrigued by the information in the book.  They advocate eating alot of "good" fats and eating only whole foods and fermented foods.  She also has another book, "Nourishing Traditions" that I am waiting to get from the library.

So what do I do?  There is so much out there now in the area of "eating healthy".  I've been praying that God will show me what to do and how to eat.  I think, though, the basics are the same in either diet.  No processed foods.  No unclean meats.  No white flour or sugar.  Only whole foods and whole grains.

Anybody out there with opinions or experience eating this way?  Especially in the area of weight loss- I'd love to hear your story.

I haven't done either one, but I recently lost almost 30 pounds, and the way I ate was much closer to the Eat Fat, Lose Fat way. My diet consisted of over 50% fat (I tracked what I ate on a website), and I lost about 2 lbs. a week on average. I probably could have lost weight faster, but I was nursing and didn't want to.

My favorite book on weight loss is How I Gave Up My Low Fat Diet and Lost Forty Pounds by Dana Carpender. I ate lots of protein, only 60-75 g of net carbs per day (lots of veggies and fiber), and plenty of fats. I also tried to stick to HEALTHY fats: animal fats, coconut oil, butter, olive oil, etc. (Basically what the author of Eat Fat, Lose Fat calls healthy - she is a lipids researcher, so I figure she knows her fats. ;-) )

OH, I'm so glad that you've blogged again! You have been MISSED!

I, too, stuggle with my weight. It's a very humbling experience for me - it has definately shown me where my pride was. I was ALWAYS this skinny one in the group, I was a size 6 when we married and I could eat whatever, whenever and as much of as I wanted...UNTIL...I had children.

My hubby and I did Adkins and few years ago, I lost nearly 30 lbs but gained 20+ back. About 2 years ago I changed our family's diet to a much healthier diet - whole grain, olive oil, safflower oil, very little package/processed foods - although we eat our every Sunday. We have seen very little change in our weight and a friend recently told me that I should try taking dietary enzymes after every meal, so I just started that.

Also, a few years ago I reviewed the book, What the Bible Says About Healthy Living by Dr. Rex Russel - which I really enjoyed and can completely see the reasoning behind everything he said. He's really not a quack or some earth-papa-guru! :-) So I think I'll get that out and re-read it.

Let us know as you progress!

Blessings from Ohio, Kim Wolf<><
