How common is your life?

I just finished reading Max Lucado's  "Cure for the Common Life".  Has anyone else out there read it?  I'd love to hear your feedback.  Email me at Eleanor@TheHomeCast.com

Cute cover on this book...two large yellow labs sleeping on a dark green couch, (ackk imagine the dog hair!) with an open  window behind them.  More importantly, the content of the book is insightful and thought provoking.

The basic premise is that each of us is uniquely "knit together" by God,  with an individualized mix of talent and personality.  He designed us for a purpose, and our life can only be truly meaningful and joyful and fulfilling when it is lived according to his design, and for his glory.

Do you find it is easier to recognize the strengths and purpose in other people than in yourself? I do.

Anyway, there's a terrific chapter entitled "Decode Your Kid's Code".  It stresses the importance of recognizing and appreciating each child's uniqueness, and explains the real meaning of the often quoted verse "Train up a child in the way he should go..."(Proverbs 22:6).

I just read this last night, and then this morning came across Diana Waring's blog entry that reinforced the same thing.  Interesting.  I can't help but think again of Psalm 139: 13-18. We are God's creation...and so are our children. He has a plan for them, and for us. I find that humbling and exhilarating at the same time!

I found a copy of Lilly magazine at Wal-Mart the other day and loved it! So glad that you blogged about it!

Apr. 9, 2006 - I hope my life isn't common!

Sorry I haven't been around much -- life just gets crazy sometimes. This sounds like a great book. I just might have to pick it up and see if I'm common. After this week though, I'd love to be those two golden retreivers laying on the couch, so long as someone else has to vacuum it. You'll have to pop over and see what my Chrysanthemum did this weekend (if you get the chance). P.S. How are you feeling these days?

Thanks for sharing. I'll have to check it out. Right now I'm reading "Captivating" by John and Stasi Eldridge and also, "Lessons I Learned in the Dark" by Jennifer Rothschild.
