Junk shopping, road trips and other life happenings
|
After a whirlwind trip up to Michigan over the weekend, I have one day to get things turned around before heading up to visit my relatives in Toronto. Isn't amazing how the summer flies by? Anyway, I just couldn't resist a quick stop into the "junk shop" this morning while doing banking in town. "Jeanne's What Shoppe" is a real exercise in serendipity. It's open when Jeanne feels like it...when it's not too hot, nor too cold, or when nothing else comes up...you get the idea. So, if I drive by and see the shop open I usually stop in. She has the greatest collection of JUNK ever...and CHEAP! Here are photos of today's take...and the total I spent...$11.00. (yes, eleven dollars) If anyone knows anything about antiques I'd love your input on the last plate. It's very old - that much I know -and I thought it was fascinating. I got it for 50 cents because it has a small chip.

The little stand with the drawer (green glass knob) will go beside the couch to set my coffee mug on! (table was $5.00) The signs will go in the laundry room with the rest of my collection.

This old plate is gorgeous in real life. And now here's the interesting plate.

I realize the writing may be too small to see. Here's what it says: Historical America
Betsy Ross showing the first flag...1777 Homer Laughlin China Company Made in the USA Picture reproduced from Original Painting by Joseph Boggs Beale Copyright Modern Enterprises, Philadelphia, PA.
The plate is about 9 inches across. So...any antique experts out there?

Those are some deals. I love the little table and the rose platter. The signs are great, too. You'll have to take a pic of your laundry room.
We could have some fun together, Eleanor! Either that or get in a fight over the goodies! lol

Homer Laughlin is the company responsible for introducing America to Fiesta Ware dishes - I grew up on Homer Laughlin dishes!! and I collect Fiesta, Fiesta, Fiesta.......... They also have this series of historical plates. Here in Georgia, we have "Georgia plates" though not from Homer Laughlin. You can Google search the company and find a great deal of info ~
Hope this helps - have a great Tuesday!

Looks like you found some great treasures on the "junk" shop. Hope you hear something about the plate. We're still here in MD; went to the shore Sun & Mon. Still having a great time and trying to post pics. Too much vacation and not enough time. Enjoy your trip to Toronto. We'll catch up soon.

We've recently begun looking in Junk Shops as well for *new* household items... both my boys are now officially addicted to 'antiquing'! They have both picked out items for their room re-do's. What great finds!! Love it all!! How do you display your plates?

Ooh, would we have fun together! I love to go antiquing. Although my decor was once referred to as "Early Ugly" and there aren't too many antiques here now.....bummer. Anyway, you did good! I would die for that Betsy Ross plate....too cool.
Hugs!!!
