...such a nice change from bills and credit card offers. The first was my shipment of FREE business cards. I was a little embarrased at the Writer's Conference when people gave me their cards, and I gave them a neon post-it note with my email address scrawled on it! I went in a "listen and learn" mode, and didn't feel the need for cards. But now I see how useful they are...and you can get them for FREE. Visit www.vistaprint.com All you will pay is shipping (about $5.00 for 250 cards) if you let them print a small one line ad on the back of the card. My cards happen to say "freelance writing and editing" but they could just as easily say laundress, dog sitter, chief cook and bottle washer...or whatever. It's just a handy way to give someone your contact information. They look great! The other package is a book I get to review, and it looks most interesting. It's called Authentic Parenting in a Postmodern Culture, published by Harvest House, and written by Mary E DeMuth. Just from skimming through for a few minutes I can guarantee this book will rattle a few chains in the homeschooling and evangelical world. It goes back to the balance between protecting our children while they ARE children, while equipping them to live in the real world as adults. Most interesting...look for a full review next week. I was struck by the writer's reference to the true "Lord's Prayer" in John 17 verse 14-15 "My prayer is not that you take them out of the world, but that you protect them from the evil one." Is that my prayer...or do I want to cocoon my children forever? What does God want me to do? Salt and light aren't much good if they are kept in the cellar are they? Hmmm...check back next week to see what I've learned!
