Birthday Memories

Tuesday was my birthday and we had a wonderful day.

First, Mike took us to breakfast at Guenther House, an old house in the King William District that has been converted into a restaurant and cooking gift shop.  We discovered it on our anniversary and it has the BEST breakfasts.  They make fresh pasteries every day too, so we had to split a few of those.

It's hard to get everyone paying attention :)

Then we decided to walk around the King William District and look at all the big, old houses.  The second one we came to was the James House and it turned out to be a museum.  We thought it would be fun to take the tour, so we made our way to the back of the grounds to buy tickets.  We were met by a member of the Historical Society who acted as though we walked in the 5 cockroaches rather than 5 children.  We had just missed the tour, and she was sure we wouldn't want to wait around for the next one.  She did give us a map for a walking tour though.

So, off we went on a walking tour of the King William District.  It was really a lot of fun.  It took us down by the river and up through the neighborhood.

This is one of the houses.

It wasn't the prettiest one, but we were almost done before it occured to me to take pictures of the houses.

It's a lousy shot, but doesn't this look like a gret place to while away the afternoon with a glass of mint tea?

Next we headed to Greune (pronounced Green) to look in all the little antique shops.  I LOVE looking in antique shops.  In the first one Eli remembered that he had some of his birthday money left over and decided he wanted to buy me a present.  He was quite insistent.  He really wanted to buy me two things, but was concerned that it would "waste" all his money.  He also had very definite ideas on what he intended to buy me.  Thankfully he has great taste.  I planned to put a picture here, but it isn't uploading right and I am out of time.  I'll try again later.

Hailey took this one of us outside of another shop in Gruene

Mike, getting back to his roots.

Mike made yummy hamburgers with sweet potato fries for dinner and the kids sang "Go Tell it on the Mountain".  I videoed it, hope I can figure out how to post it!

All in all, a great day.

What a wonderful way to spend your birthday!! Happy, happy Birthday to you!

It is funny that you mentioned Ambleside and CM on my blog because a friend just send me link for Ambleside. I have been reading and reading and making book lists. And I found it interesting that I had quite a few of the recomendeds in possession. It seems I am naturally leaning towards that style. I may just use that for next year.
