About Me

A mild-mannered homeschool mom who is faster than a speeding flash card, more powerful than a mega-workbook, and able to leap tall unabridged bilingual dictionaries in a single bound! Look! Up in cyberspace! It's a flamenco skirt! It's an irregular verb chart! No, it's just me, and it's time to learn Spanish.

Guest Blogger - Peanut el conejo

Posted in bilingual stories

Hola, me llamo Peanut.  Soy la mascota de la familia B.  Los niños me maltraten.  ¡Me ponen ropa de muñecas!  Pero me dan mucho de comer, y me cepillan el pelo.  Soy un conejo amigable y pasiente, pero no soy muy intelegente.  ¿Puedes imaginar la vida de un conejo en una casa llena de niños?

Before you read the translation... how much of it could you already understand?

Here is the translation:
Hi, my name is Peanut.  I am the B family pet.  The kids mistreat me.  They put doll clothes on me!  But they do give me a lot to eat, and they brush my fur.  I am a friendly and patient rabbit, but I am not very smart.  Can you imagine the life of a rabbit in a house full of kids?

By comparing English to Spanish, what new words can you learn?  Despite being able to compare, what did not make sense to you?  One hint: in Spanish, the direct object comes before the verb!  For example, me dan = they give me, me cepillan = they brush me.
