Jun. 3, 2008 - Un viaje a las Cavernas de Carlsbad. A trip to Carlsbad Caverns.
Fuimos a las Cavernas de Carlsbad. ¡Qué divertido! We went to Carldbad Caverns. What fun!

Vimos estalactitas y estalagmitas. We saw stalactites and stalagmites.
Las estalactitas van desde el techo hacia abajo. Stalactites go from the ceiling down.
Las estalagmitas van desde el suelo hacia arriba. The stalagmites go from the floor up.

Son animales nocturnos. They are nocturnal animals.
Pasan la noche volando y comiendo miles de insectos. The spend the night flying and eating thousands of insects.
Peuden ver, pero no muy bien. Dependen más de ecolocalización. They can see, but not well. They depend more on their echolocation.

Jan. 23, 2008 - Guest Blogger - Peanut el conejo

Before you read the translation... how much of it could you already understand?
Here is the translation:
Hi, my name is Peanut. I am the B family pet. The kids mistreat me. They put doll clothes on me! But they do give me a lot to eat, and they brush my fur. I am a friendly and patient rabbit, but I am not very smart. Can you imagine the life of a rabbit in a house full of kids?
By comparing English to Spanish, what new words can you learn? Despite being able to compare, what did not make sense to you? One hint: in Spanish, the direct object comes before the verb! For example, me dan = they give me, me cepillan = they brush me.

Dec. 16, 2007 - Look what I found!
I was digging around for sight words book lists, when I came upon this site with free printables. I'll tell you, ESL in public schools has provided a treasure trove of materials for those of us who want to dig around for Spanish resources! These little booklets give context clues, and would be fun for little ones to color. I added this to my links page, but wanted to put it here too for you resourceful types who use Christmas break as a time to gear up for next semester.
