Poem of the Week - 19 Nov. 2007

Ugh! I am late again! Sundays are busy for me, and I don't have time to post, maybe the poem of the week should start on Monday. Well here is the (late) poem of the week.

Nimrodel
By J.R.R. Tolkien

An Elven-maid there was of old,
    A shining star by day:
Her mantle white was hemmed with gold,
    Her shoes of silver-grey.

A star was bound upon her brows,
A light was on her hair
As sun upon the golden boughs
    In Lòrien the fair.

Her hair was long, her limbs were white,
    And fair she was and free;
And in the wind she went as light
    As leaf of linden-tree.

Beside the falls of Nimrodel,
    By water clear and cool,
Her voice as falling silver fell
    Into the shining pool.

Where now she wanders none can tell,
    In sunlight or in shade;
For lost of yore was Nimrodel
    And in the mountains strayed.

The elven-ship in haven grey
    Beneath the mountain-lee
Awaited her for many a day
    Beside the roaring sea.

A wind by night in Northern lands
    Arose, and loud it cried,
And drove the ship from elven-strands
    Across the streaming tide.

When dawn came dim the land was lost,
    The mountains sinking grey
Beyond the heaving waves that tossed
    Their plumes of blinding spray.

Amroth beheld the fading shore
    Now low beyond the swell,
And cursed the faithless ship that bore
    Him far from Nimrodel

Of old he was and Elven-king,
A lord of tree and glen,
When golden were the boughs in spring
    In fair Lothlòrien.

From helm to sea they saw him leap,
    As arrow from the string,
And dive into the water deep,
    As mew upon the wing.

The wind was in the flowing hair,
    The foam about him shone;
Afar they saw him strong and fair
    Go riding like a swan.

But from the West has come no word,
    and on the Hither Shore
No tidings Elven-folk have heard
    Of Amroth evermore.
~Nimrodel

I am very glad you like my Hemlock story! It is late and I do not have time to read your peom, sorry about my spelling, but will in the morning. And I can not wait!
Well, I have the Hemlock story writen down but I gave it to my adopted sister Meaghan who moved to Denver and we see each other no more. But I have changed so much that I am sort of making it up as I go. But the main idea is the same, I con not tell you what that is or it would ruin the stroy. So you will just have to keep reading.
In fact I am making so much up as I go I may mess somethings up if I do noe write out the basic theme soon. I have learned I have to do that or I get side tracked!
So how is Thanksgiving at Queen Flora's going? I hope you both are having fun!
You said you write. Do you just write peoms (Sorry no matter hos I try I can not thimk how to spell that right. I know until I want to spell it!) I love peoms, but I can not write them. Yours are very good! Do you write stories too?
Well Good night.
Adieu, Maiden Capitola Lisette

All I can say is LOVELY! It reminds me of one I read once, called...WELL! I was about to remember and it slipped away! Anyways it too was a lovley poem (Here we go again!) But even better, yours is about elves!
I love poems! How they can draw your attention and carry you off and then at the end you wake up with a sad sigh as if from a lovely dream. And you go around and remember it for weeks and weeks and it is like returning to a lovely dream. Well that was not the best explination, but oh I do love poems! And yours are very good! And this one was wonderful! I like how it sort of keeps you wondering at the end. Wondering if he ever found her.
Oh I do wish I could remember that name of that poem!
Well I shall bid thee adieu. I hope you are having fun with Queen Flora! And happy Thanksgiving!

About the Authors

We go by Nimrodel and Tinuviel, two bosom friends writing a blog together. As you may have already noticed, we both possess a deep love for all things Elven, and are convinced that we're really elves in disguise. (Hey, girls can dream, can't they?) We're Christians, and do our best to honor God in all things.

Quote of the Week

Thank goodness I was never sent to school, it would have rubbed off some of the originality.
