Reach for the stars writing class lesson #5

Here is lesson 5 in reach for the stars writing class:

Your assignment is to choose a character from the story you are writing (or make up a character), and choose a feeling (use the chart for ideas). Then, in COMPLETE sentences, write a little scene (like the one above for Sally) that SHOWS your character expressing this feeling. Post it on your blog and then sign Mr. Linky if you want feedback.

Character: Pansy
Emotion: Scared
"What was that," Pansy nearly screamed, her eyes were wide, and her heart was pounding, "Raindant," she asked shakily. BANG came a noice from upstairs " RAINDANT HELP!!" Pansy screamed at the top of her lungs.

Reach for the stars writing class lesson #4

Here is my fourth lesson in Reach for the stars writing class, by the way, I highly recommend this writing class for anyone who is interested in improving their writing.

Take all the notes from your character chart and write (in PARAGRAPH form--sentences that make sense) a character sketch for one of the characters from a story you want to write. Make it interesting! Make me want to read a story about the character you created.

Lydia is 16 years old, she is bold, and head strong, when some one says/does something wrong, she's not afraid to tell them so, but she's not bossy. She often times speaks/acts before she thinks, which can get her into trouble . She enjoys riding horse, especially  Amarod, her jet black horse, with her friend Raindant. Her favorite place to ride is the forest by the old castle where
and trees to climb and lots to explore. Lydia isn't haughty because she's a princess/queen, and she doesn't mind, in fact she enjoys being friends with peasants, and she can't stand it when people call peasants "paupers."

Reach for the stars writing class lesson #3

Here is my third lesson for Reach for the Stars Writing class:

--Blank Character Charts: use these charts to fill in your characters' names, physical traits, personality, and likes/dislikes. Print out as many as you like to have on hand for all your stories. It is a good tool to help you get to know your characters.

Character:    Lydia (she doesn't have a last name, because her story takes place in medieval times)

Physical traits:
Long medium, thick, brown, strait hair, with no bangs, hazel eyes, less full lips, red cheeks, and a beautiful singing voice

Personality Traits
:    bold, friendly, out going, confident, adventurous, determined, lively, loyal, dependable, creative, talkative, bubbly, quick-tempered, diligent, impulsive, impatient, a little revengeful, high-spirited, doesn't always think before she acts, but she learns to, a little

Likes/Dislikes:
Likes: horses, horse back riding in the woods near the old castle, on her horse, Amarod, with her friend Raindant, climbing trees, exploring
Dislikes: when people refer to peasants as "paupers," when people don't care how they treat they're horses

Reach for the Stars Writing Class - Lesson #2

Here is my second lesson in Reaching for the stars writing class. (the link for it is now with our other links)

The worksheets for today's lesson give you a chance to do some "character exercises." You get to write about your favorite character and your least favorite character. There are examples to show you how to do it, also. Once you have finished the exercises on the worksheet, do it again on your own paper with new characters. Do it a lot! This exercise helps you "get inside" the characters and find out what makes them real. It is a great skill when it's time to get inside your character's head and make him or her real.

My favorite character: Kim Possible
I like Kim Possible because she's a normal girl who doesn't listen to what "everyone" is saying to an extent. She doesn't like guys just because they're "cute" and she also handles situations like a normal girl would.

My least favorite character is: Elizabeth Swann
I can't stand Elizabeth Swann because she has no morals, kisses Jack, and then stabs him in the back. And I think that that's enough said.

Reach for the Stars Writing Class - Lesson #1

I just found a really cool blog. It's called Suzy's Writing Corner (there is now a link to it on the side bar), it has weekly lessons on writing. Well I've decided to try it, and I will post each of my lessons as I do them, here's the first one.

Lesson #1

Your first assignment: Older students (grades 4 and up): Read the handout about what every good story needs. Then think of a book you have read. See if you can figure out if the story you read included each of the 5 elements.

Example:
Charlotte's Web
Character:
Charlotte the spider
Setting:
the barnyard
Problem:
keeping Wilbur alive
Plot:
Charlotte creates webs that "talk"; Wilbur becomes a star
Solution:
Wilbur lives

The book I'm thinking of is "The Lord of the Rings" by J.R.R. Tolkien

Character: Frodo, Sam, Merry, Pippin, Aragon, Legolas, Gandalf, Gimli, Eowyn, Eomer, Galadriel, ect, ect.
Setting: Middle Earth: The shire, Lothlorien, Moria, Rohan, Rivendel, Gondor, ect. ect.
Problem: Destroying the Ring of Power
Plot: They take the ring to Mordor, and there are a lot of battles, it's to complex of a plot to go into further detail.
Solution: They destroy the ring of power and save Middle Earth

About the Authors

We go by Nimrodel and Tinuviel, two bosom friends writing a blog together. As you may have already noticed, we both possess a deep love for all things Elven, and are convinced that we're really elves in disguise. (Hey, girls can dream, can't they?) Quote of the Week

Thank goodness I was never sent to school, it would have rubbed off some of the originality.
