"Oh, I've got the whole universe. Planets to explore, civilizations to rescue, and a whole lot of running."

The Princess Bride

After not seeing this movie for several years (seven, to be exact,) I decided to rent it from the video store.  I thought it was okay, definitely not up to lotr's standard, but I didn't hate it.  One thing that reallybothered me was Buttercup's complete uselessness.  Like in the Fireswamp, when the ROUS was gnawing on Westley's shoulder, she just stands there and watches her true love suffer when she could be stabbing the thing with the sword and helping him.  And instead of telling Humperdink that she wasn't going to marry him and running off, she just stays there.

Vizzini was probably the character I remembered most vividly.  I, however, forgot about how he looked like he was wearing football shoulder-pads, and how short he was.  I had also forgotten about Fezzik and Inigo, and the albino who looks like he dunked his head in a flour barrel, and most of the later half of the movie, including one of my favorite parts, in Miracle Max's and Valerie's house.  ("He distinctly said, 'tu blave', which as we all know, means, 'to bluff.'")

So I'd give this movie two and three-fourths stars, I guess.

Hi!
I totally agree with you on Buttercup. If I remember correctly she was holding a large stick in the fire swamp. Did she use it? Noooo. She mearly poked at the ROUS with the tip, screamed, fell over, jabbed a tiny bit more, dropped the stick and screamed some more. The entire time I was yelling, "Hit it with the stick! Grab Westly's sword and use it or hand it to him! You are a wimp, Buttercup! Go Westly!"
Buttercup wasn't completely usless though. After all, if she wasn't in the story, there wouldn't be any one to look ravishingly beautiful and wear the pretty dresses. Every story needs a fair lady, no matter how dimwitted, although I prefer the bold and brave maidens.

hilarious! I am sorry that you don't appreciate The Princess Bride. It is all about stupidity, and irony, and sarcasm and the obviously "inconceivable"!
I hit random blog this morning, and you popped up.
I am not expecting you to respond back to my comment, but being an avid buwwer-cwup fan, I just couldn't help myself.
Does that not make you happy?

Have a great day!
