| Giving My Best for Him |
PatienceHas there ever been a day you were eagerly looking forward to, so much so, that you could hardly wait and hardly focus on anything else? Or maybe you were going to meet up with some friends you hadn't seen in a long time? It doesn't matter what it is, the fact remains that everyone has most likely had a test of his or her patience, at some point in their lives...or on the other hand, maybe impatience.Sure, there's nothing wrong with looking forward to something, or whatever the case may be, but I do know that we can sometimes get impatient and feel like we just can't wait any longer! It can become a main focus and all we can think of for a time. But honestly, is our eagerness (or frustration) really a reason to be impatient? It is something I have had to think over many times...obviously I can't speed time up, so why not focus on something else, instead of getting "anxious" or frustrated because things aren't speeding up, or happening soon enough, when I want them to. Patience though, doesn't just have to do with your "schedule", so to speak, it has a lot to do with Spiritual matters too...or let me say, if you are impatient, it can affect you in a great many ways that in the end might lead you away from God. Let me illustrate... I know of a girl who has had some things happen in her life that have been traumatic for her. She has thought of "giving up", many times, because she doesn't feel God will help her...she is being impatient, though I don't think she realizes it. I think this is impatience at its best. She will pray to God and ask Him to help her and take the hurt and sorrow from what she's experienced, away. She prays that her life will once again be better and that God just hurry up. Is it that simple? No. She wants God to do things for her, but when she wants them and how she wants them. She doesn't want to wait for God's timing, therefore this impatience of hers is taking full advantage and well, the sad part is, it's leading her further and further away from Christ, because she feels that He is not hearing her and simply doesn't care. Oh, but if she would just wait in God's time...His timing, is of course, the best, because He knows what will happen in the future and why it is best that we wait just a little bit longer. I cannot of my own self learn to be patience. It is just not possible, because I really cannot do anything in my own strength--I need God's help to form this quality. To learn to be patient is a very valuable thing and as Christians, I feel it our duty to learn to be patient, in every area. In Galatians 5:22, the fruits of the Spirit are listed--patience is one of them, this is why I believe it is a good character trait to have. The Bible even tells us this. Christ is our strength and He gives us strength--He can help us learn to wait, without wishing that time would go by right now, and no later. Each day we have is a gift from God and I believe, too, that we need to use every moment we have wisely and for Good. Impatience won't bring this about, because when we are impatient, we tend to focus on what "I" want, rather than "what can I do to make good use of my time while I wait?" I guess in the end it comes down to this - we either choose to trust God, learn patience and have peace, or we choose our own way, loads of frustration, and ultimately separation from God. But if we let God have the last word on the subject, we will hear Him encouraging us as in James 1:3-4, "Knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing." (NKJV) It is my prayer that you will learn to be patient and let Christ help you. At times it can be hard, but nothing is too hard if you have Christ on your side. I wish you all a blessed new week. :) By Faith, Taryn 7:45 AM - February 4, 2007 - post comment
