I am making butter today.  Let me rephrase that.  I am trying to make butter today.  I have been skimming out milk and collecting cream over the past several days.  This is a rather long process for me.  Perhaps someday I will invest in a cream seperator.  That would be quite nice.  But, for now, I use a ladel.  Which isn't so bad, but it is very hard to keep everybody out of a jug of milk until I skim it.  It's a good thing we're dairy farmers, otherwise we would spend a fortune in milk alone.  Anyways, the butter has been churning for almost three hours and I am slightly concerned I was told it may take two hours, but three?  Uh-oh.  I'm not so sure it's my fault though.  I am thinking of several possible solutions to my problem.  One:  It simply does not work in the mixer and I need to invest in a new butter churn.  Two.  I used salted butter instead of unsalted to seed it and maybe salt messes things up.  Three:  Our cream is not rich enough because of the agitator in the bulk tank.  Four:  It still needs some time.  Five:  I am simply a failure and there just isn't anything that can be done about that :P.
