Mar. 20, 2007 - Getting Started....
Well, I thought maybe I'd be able to hold myself a bit more accountable if I started writing down what we're doing each day....or atleast every few days. The day just seems to fly by and before I blink twice it's time for dinner and I didn't get half the things I intended to get done. I kinda wonder if this is just adding one more thing to the mental list or not, but I will see how it goes.
This week will be a bit off anyway since Perry is out of town on a journey to New York and to visit Niagra Falls with his Grammie Benedict. It's spring break for most people, but we are trying to not take a break as they had a long break over Christmas visiting their father .
Monday we went Bowling with the Homeschool group, then came home for lunch. Libby rode her bike about 10 feet for the first time without training wheels!!!!!!
Today, we did better. We usually make sure to get the table work done each day...math, copywork, and usually a workbook sheet. But I'm just not as involved as I want/need to be. We didn't get around to the reading I wanted to do, and I'm thinking we need to be adding a lot more into our daily schedule. Right now our schedule consists of what comes off the top of my head, which is completely dangerous I know.
I am hosting a Landrun event on April 23rd so we are reading about the OKlahoma Landrun from a book called Beautiful Land..it is from the Once upon America series...it's all I could find with short notice and I havn't quite learned how to decifer living books on my own yet, but I'm pretty sure this is twaddle.
I spent the day catching up on cleaning...laundry was waaaaaaaay behind..but is now completely done...well it was until everyone got ready for bed this evening! The bathroom has been cleaned along with mopping of the kitchen, and the living room carpet was vacumned. Parker did an EXCEPTIONAL job organizing his socks, underwear and pants drawers...but it did take about 2 hours to get the job done. He is so meticulous about things when he is really trying then other times everything is a disaster area! But I dont' think he is soley accountable...I think he has 2 mess maker siblings who help!
Here's the mental reading plan:
I read out of the bible daily from the book of Acts, except Wednesday we read from a story bible (were reading about the Gospels). The kids are narrating back what we talk about. We are taking it in small sections to make sure they are understanding. It's in the plan to read Parables from Nature and Trial and Triumph on alternating Sunday's but lately it hasn't been happening. We need to get back to it!
Parker is co-reading Tree in the Trail, and The Burgess Animal Book. There are probably about 10 other books we are supposed to be reading and I'm just overwhelmed thinking about it.
Libby is Kindergarden, so we are just learning new sight words and I like to read her little Beatrix Potter: World of Peter Rabbit stories. She loves them.
We were just given a copy of the Story of Inventions...which Perry has supposed to have been reading on-line. I'm so happy to have been blessed with a real copy! We will get started on that when he gets back. He is also reading Water Babies, but that is free reading for him to work on when I'm helping the smaller kids. Oh, we are also reading Minn of the Mississippi together, which we enjoy so much! We intend to do Science Lab in a Supermarket all together. We are listening to Jonathan Park in the car whenever we go for a drive with dad...we've heard them a few times before but he hasn't. It's about time to get a new set!
Now all we are missing is Nature Walks, Poetry, Sketching, Handicrafts, and Habit Training...whew...I need more hours in the day!
Okie doke....well, I think that wraps up our school day. This evening we went to Grandma and Crappaws to see Aunt Sara and Uncle Will's wedding video. She got married last Thursday, we are so happy for them!
Well, everyone has long been in bed and are all sleeping cozily, except for mama...who needs to join them! Good-Night All!
