Oct. 12, 2007 It's been a little while
Well I was trying to post once a week or more, but it's been a little while!
Guess I've not felt like typing about anything spectacular! School is work is mostly going well. My highly distractable son did so well when I read while he did handwriting! He was so proud of how quick and neat he was! And he retained most of the history I was reading! So I thought I'd have them draw/color while I did our Bible story. WRONG.... I told them to draw what I was reading about (Mary & Joseph), he couldn't figure what to draw at all and it stressed him out. I though maybe if I tell very specific what to draw next time it would help. It would be great if I had pre-printed coloring sheets, but to find one for Bible everyday would be a lot!
We are behind in Science as usual, only on lesson 4, but this last lesson the kids really seemed to like! So hopefully that keeps me inspired to keep it up! My daughter lost her math book this week so she did only drill this week, luckily I just found it stuck between the seat and edge of the van!

Aug. 29, 2007 An Article I Came Upon
I just found this article while searching poems for 3rd grader to memorize. My 1st grader just memorized his first poem from FLL so EASILY! I did the repeated readings each day, then today he tried it 2 lines at a time, then he had it! If you agree w/the different stages of learning then you are probably already memorizing..but perhaps if you are not you don't realize how easy it is for the younger ones!

Aug. 23, 2007 Our First Week Back
Well I thought I would give some updates about our first week!
First off I need to plan some time management into our schedule! I write everything down that we need to do, but have not worked out times. I thought I could wing it, but it's not working! We were still doing school at 4 today! I guess we really need to start earlier. If I know how much time I have allotted for a subject , then I can encourage that goal or say 'times up' and have them do it as 'homework'. LOL! My kids tend to dawdle ;)
Second I need to prioritize a little bit and be a bit more peppy and go get 'em! I need to also be more encouraging about some of the little accomplishments.
I think my lesson plans need more space so I can write in a bit more detail and also I'm thinking I should give the kids some daily lists of their more independent work. I think if I did this for my daughter she might just be up doing it early in the morn! Okay enough about all of that!!!
Some curriculum talk....
The kids are excited about our Spanish Risas Y Sonrisas, they are quite happy to be learning Spanish!
My 1st grader is enjoying his FLL! I think he likes memorizing! Good thing!! He says this is his favorite school book, I think that is because he gets to sit on the couch w/just him and I!
My daughter says her favorite is still Math (singapore) and she is pretty independent with it! Also I think writing tales is going good so far! She wrote her first rough draft today and I was happy there was no big struggle! Also I think we are enjoying our Beginnings 2 Bible Study. It is very easy to implement and the kids like most things that we do together! Okay going to get some rest!! My Mom has my 2 oldest to take to co-op tomorrow! Yeah~ but I still have to get up w/the 2 year old! |

Aug. 22, 2007 Back To School
| Well we've started back to all our official school work! We started Monday by getting McD's b-fast and going swimming. That was our back to school 'party'. We then did all our work yeah! But by Monday night my oldest was throwing up! =( And we missed our back to school picnic w/our HS group on tuesday and my DD didn't do hardly any work tuesday. Though my son got all of his done. So I now feel behind, silly huh? But she is 100% better today and they are working now, so I better go check on them! I may come back and type up some more later! Or maybe I shall wait till friday. Who knows!? |
