August 19, 2007 - Unit Studies
JD asked to learn about different topics in unit study format this year. He didn't know to call it that but I knew that is what he meant. We're going to start with Volcanos. We will be visiting Hawaii in December where my mother and father-in-law live. We'll be visiting the Big Island for a few days and will be staying near Kilauea. So we're going to do all the learning about volcanos that we can in the meantime as well as learn more Hawaiian language using a free dvd from my husbands alma mater and a CD program that we bought the last time we were on the islands. We may get the opportunity to practice with some Hawaiian speakers when we are there. Here is a link to a volcano unit study I found that I'll probably start with.
We've also made a list of other topics we'd like to learn about in the coming year. Some of these include magnets, electronics, spies and spy stuff, dinosaurs, horses, farms and animals that live there, rocks and minerals....
We're going to be quite busy I think!

August 26, 2007 - lapbooks |

| Hi Erika! It's Pam from the frugal list :p I don't know if you have done any lapbooks yet, but this may be right up your alley. You can check out www.handsofachild.com and http://www.liveandlearnpress.com/ if interested. Actually you can download some freebies from Live and Learn to see how you like them, but you need to join their yahoogroup first. They are great for all homeschoolers but especially the unschooling crowd who may need (or want) some "proof" of what they are accomplishing. Just thought I'd pass that along in case you haven't tried lapbooks yet! |
