What is Homeschooling from the Heart? It is listening to that "still small voice" when you are trying to find the best way to teach a subject or a character trait or a skill to your child(ren). Once a person is born again isn't it true that Jesus now lives in their heart? At least that is how we teach it to the young ones in Sunday School. Homeschooling from the Heart is also going to the Word for wisdom in teaching. It is doing everything from our love for our Lord and Savior.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 1:7
It is important that no matter what teaching style we choose to use that it be a result of much prayer and seeking of the Lord for His wisdom. It doesn't matter if we unschool, or use the Trivium, or just use a quality prepackaged all-in-one curriculum. It only matters that it is the right fit for our family and that it is what the Lord has in mind for us and these little children.
The best way to know the mind of the Lord on these matters is, of course, to read his Word, and abide in Him. Also, praying without ceasing, and just observing to see if what we're currently using is working for us or not. There are so many good resources on bible based instruction. Some of my favorites that I've come across are Heart of Wisdom, Wisdom's Gate, and Keepers of the Faith.
My greatest goal in homeschooling is that my children will have Jesus in their hearts and that they will know how to abide in Him and seek His wisdom. Once they have that they will be able to accomplish anything set before them! How awesome is that?
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Phillipians 4:13
