the missionary's wife

Year in Review
Inspired by my friend Jen Igs year in review I decided to review my own crazy year
January- Our first full month as new missionaries to Mexico, we make
some new friends, I teach Sunday School in my 10 words of Spanish to
hordes of dear little children with poor dental hygiene and we struggle
through the language barrier.
February-Scott's mom comes for a visit, we lose the property we had
come down to minister from and the children all get chicken pox
March-We try to figure out where to minister from now, continue
living in our 850sq ft house, make lots of great connections and
friends in the Mexican church and continue teaching Sunday School.
April-Eden has 7 seizures over the course of a week, we see a
neurologist and trust God to heal her with advice from professionals
and we head up to Nor Cal to pack up my beloved schoolroom and put our
stuff in storage. We also visit lots of sweet people.
May-Back to Mexico which is feeling more homelike, Scott helps a friend
get an apartment built so we can move into his house, at his request.
June-Move again, but first disinfect mold buildup in new house.
My family was very sick with a flu but Mexican church friends came
through to help us move
July-Get settled in the house, go back east for a family reunion,
overall peaceful except for another seizure. Scott helps two
pastors get new churches built or renovated.
August-Helped a youth group from Sacramento build a house for a poor
family near Maneadero. One week of dorm life(with my 5 kids and
numerous teen-agers) and more dirt than the previous months combined
but fun to see my sister's family and my mother, who were part of the
group.
September-Scott heads south 4 hours with friends to help a lady in need
of a new roof, this was a joy as Scott was able to bring some of his
Mexican friends along to help also. They were willing to
sacrifice paying jobs to go. Remarkable since many of them only
make around 10 dollars a day. It was a testimony of my husbands
success at communicating to his Mexican brothers the need to help those
in need.
We also celebrate 3 birthdays and our 15 year anniversary.
October-After finally feeling comfortable in our house, which having 3
bedrooms felt like a mansion(the first had only 2) We find out the
owner wants to move back in because him and his wife have decided to
adopt a baby.
November-First we had until January to move but then the owner decided
to put the house on the market. Clearly the noise of our 5
children pitterpattering across his ceiling has gotten to him, we tried
to tell him. We decided to move out rather than leaving our stuff
there for the three weeks we were in Sacramento for my brothers
wedding. We put our stuff in storage and headed north. I
felt really tired of moving.
December-We enjoyed staying with family for November and my brothers
wedding. December 6th, my baby's birthday we head East in our new
home, a 30 ft travel trailer to visit friends and pray about where we
should now base our ministry to families desiring to experience
missions.
It has been a really crazy year, but God has been so good and
faithful. I am by nature a high strung person but he has helped
me to go with the flow and trust Him.
It has also been a great exercise in not being greedy. Besides a
regular home there is nothing I need. With 5 kids and a dog
what more could I fit in a trailer anyhow. It really did simplify
Christmas, and here at the end of the year my kids and husband are with
me and we have been able to share some really close, special time with
friends and family.
Praise God from whom all blessings flow
