Closeness

As I have said, we are living in a very small space while we look for a suitable property in Mexico.  Although this has had its tense moments it also has developed a lot of good relationship in our family.

One of my daughters came to me today with a serious look on her face and a need to confess.  With weeping she shared that a curse word had been coming into her head against her will and to her shame and remorse.  She was so brokenhearted as she shared that after she had watched a movie, Second Hand Lions, that we had allowed her to watch she had been struggling with thinking this word.  I was saddened that through this movie we had unwittingly polluted our children but I was also grateful that because of all the time we share together she was able to come to me.  We as homeschool mothers are able to be so available to our children in the normal things so that when there is a serious issue that they want to discuss we will be the ones with the opportunity to pray with them, comfort them and counsel them.

Praise God for His blessings

Jan. 30, 2006 - Precious Moments

Posted by Anonymous
I only homeschooled a couple years, while we lived and worked in Nigeria. No school was available. It didn't work well for me. Thankfully we had a mission school our sons could attend in our next posting.

I always had prayer time with my sons before they went to sleep every night. Those times were so precious. Many times my sons would talk about what they had seen or heard that day. It gave me an opportunity to help them respond appropriately. I remember the tears as my youngest son confessed having gone into a record shop and seeing pornographic images on the covers. His heart was broken and repentant. It helped him understand some of the rules of our house better.

So homeschooler or not, time of open dialogue and prayer is one of the best gifts we can give our children. And those precious moments are precious memories for a lifetime.

I hate when they ruin what could have been a great movie with ugly language. Unfortunately, it's everywhere - Discovery channel, the news. It's so acceptable by the world. It's sad.

My daughter also had a confession... she confessed that two girls (at church) had told her a dirty joke and she cannot stop thinking about it. I felt so bad for her... I am really struggling with talking to the families of these two other girls, but I am pretty sure nothing would or could be done about it. SIGH..... this world hurts sometimes. Doesn't it?
