life is full of learning

• Jan. 20, 2006 -

I think that I am going to use this blog as less of a record of our families homeschool adventure, and more of a journal of my own experiences as a homeschool mom.  I have another blog at blogspot, which I have been using to track our various activities.  I have given that address to my various family members, and now feel that I am less able to be candid due to their readership.

I have (as so many here do, I am sure) quite a bit of resistance from various family members about our educational choices.  The perspective that all of my problems would be solved if I would just put my son in school is not one I want to invite.  This means that I just don't share the trials with certain non-supportive people.

It is unfortunate, as the reality is that all paths have their blessings & their difficulties.  I need a space where I can write about our challenges, without inviting even more commentary from the peanut gallery about what a wonderful experience that my son is missing out on by not attending public school.

I understand your trials when it comes to the naysayers. You will be blessed with lots of support and friendship here at homeschoolblogger.

I highly recommend using the Homeschoolblogger link in the top left corner. It will link you to the main page of the community. There you will easily find the last 100 posts posted today. When you find someone that you find is likeminded or interesting, post a comment to introduce yourself and add them to your friends list (in your control panel). Then all you need to do to get to know these peopel better is type /friends at the end of your address in your browser's address bar and click 'go' to read their specific entries each day. It allows you get to know others and develop friendships here. As others learn about you and you introduce yourself, you will find that you will pop up on their friends list and they will be reading your entries each day - getting to know you.

I am going to add you to my friends list and will watch for your posts. Looking forward to making a great friendship with you. :0)

I am off to check your other blog. I am anxious to see your daily activities with your children, but also anxious to see how you are doign as a homeschooling mom. I understand about not wanting to transfer everything over. BUT you could also post in BOTH places about the daily activities (I usually just cut and paste and add the HTML needed - I too have a blog at blogger.com). I really can relate to others (especially family members) not being very receptive of the way we do things. I too have sometimes been reserved about posting something at blogger because my family is reading it.

I understand how that can be! Most of our family is supportive of homeschooling, but now and then I have a whopper of an in-law story that I'd hate to post where they can read it. Here I have a little more anonymity.
