Jun. 15, 2009 - In My Son's Eyes

I love this boy! Jacob is (still) in the stage where he LOVES me. Throughout the day he'll just pop in to give me a hug, blow me a kiss across the room, shout out that he loves me. It melts my heart and I wish I could bottle these days forever. It's way too easy to forget all these sweet, beautiful, tender moments. Here is one I don't want to forget...
I came down to the kitchen on Saturday morning, still half asleep. My hair was probably running amok on the top of my head and I'm sure my face was still creased by the pillow I rest my head upon each night. Jacob came running up to me and embraced me in one of his famous bear hugs, looking up at me with admiration and pure love in his eyes. He hugged me and blew a kiss up to my face. My heart melted. I walked out of the kitchen and went to sit in my chair while I finished waking up. As I sat down, Jacob walked over to Jason and asked, "Daddy, how come Mommy is just so beautiful?" Being the smart man he is, Jason answered, "That's just the way God made her." Jacob skipped off and replied "I'm so glad." Jas caught my eye again and winked saying "I am too."
My boys...I love them.

Mar. 6, 2009 - The Joy of Boys
Ah, the joy of raising boys.
They really are a different creature unto themselves. You see, today we are enjoying a warm, sunny afternoon. The kids and I have been outside for at least 2 hours. They've been riding scooters, trying to fly a kite, and then they asked to get out the water guns. The water guns were actually Hannah's idea, so girls can be pretty creative themselves. She wanted to use them to "paint" on the driveway...
The boys had other things in mind.
I came inside to work in the kitchen, and I decided to open a few of the windows to let in some fresh air. The kids stayed outside and played nicely for about 20 minutes...and things deteriorated. It started with Hannah coming inside and saying that Jacob had gotten her wet. She went upstairs to change her clothes. Then Jacob came inside, sat in a chair by the window, and proceeded to whine tell me that Joel had gotten him wet. While trying to patiently listen and explain to him that we shouldn't be spraying each other (it's not THAT warm), I noticed Joel sneak by outside.
Next thing I know, Jacob is howling!
It was a sneak attack...through the window!
Right in the face. It was a great shot actually.
Where do they come up with this stuff?!
And, more importantly, how does a mom not laugh hysterically at the cleverness of it?

Mar. 3, 2009 - Joel's 8th Birthday
Joel celebrated his 8th birthday on Sunday. He had a full day with church in the morning, his lunch and party in the afternoon and church again in the evening. All in all, I would say he had a great day.
He brought cupcake cookies in to his Sunday school class. He said everyone enjoyed them. He had his birthday cake and got his presents in the afternoon. He got the Playmobile Sunken Pirate ship that he wanted.
Here are a few pictures:

Joel with his balloons, cake and presents.

Here is the cake before the buttercream icing.

This is the cake after we enjoyed some of it. Man, was it good!

Jan. 8, 2009 - No More Cast
Jackie got her cast removed this morning. She is so happy! She said her wrist feels like jello.
Her finger is very stiff and she needs to make a fist on and off throughout the day to loosen it up and regain mobility. Even though it hurts, what do you think the first thing she wanted to do was?
Did you guess math?
You'd be wrong!
She couldn't wait to get her fingers on the piano. Play on, my girl, play on.
