A Peculiar People

Nov. 16, 2009 - Fall Fun

We all worked hard a few days ago and gathered up the leaves in the back yard.

That is one big pile of leaves!
Look at the excitement on Joel's face.  Hmm...I wonder what he's thinking?

Okay, I want you all to get behind the pile of leaves.
Why?
Because I want to get some pictures.

Yes Joel, you can jump in them after I get a few pictures.
Now get behind the pile.

Child number one has listened.  I see Jackie's head just peeking over the pile.
Hannah, put down the rake and get back there.
Jacob, quit playing with that truck and get behind the pile.

Good, now Hannah is back there.  Gee, that sun must be bright.
Go on, Joel.  Get yourself back there.

 Wait a minute - where's Jacob?

There he is!

And what good is a pile of leaves if you can't jump into them?

Even Sandy wanted to come play in the pile.

Nov. 9, 2009 - Halloween

Here are some pics from Halloween.  First up...the pumpkins!

The kids had a great time picking out their designs with dad.  Then they all dug in and got dirty.  I think they all turned out pretty cool.

And what would holiday pictures be without the pictures of the candy stash...

I know - it's so sad.  They barely got any candy and they don't look excited at all.

Nov. 3, 2009 - Jacob's First Tooth

Jacob lost his first tooth today!  I was in the family room, reading with the girls when he came running up the stairs, shouting, "Mom, my tooth came out!"

I took him into the bathroom to rinse out his mouth and asked him if he had pulled the tooth out.  He shook his head no.  I asked him if the tooth had just fallen out.  He shook his head no.  I asked him how the tooth came out and he answered, "Joel."

Now, my curiosity got the better of me, and I asked him if Joel had pulled out his tooth.  He shook his head no.  "Did Joel hit you or something and make the tooth come out?"  Not an unlikely scenario, as anyone who has sons can tell you.  He shook his head no.  Okay - then,  "How did you're tooth come out?"

I wasn't expecting the answer I got.  I should have been.  After all, we all know that truth is stranger than fiction.

Apparently, they were playing and Jacob had Joel's shirt in his mouth.  He was gripping it with his teeth, most likely so that Joel couldn't get away.  Or Jacob was just doing it to annoy Joel.  Either story is completely plausible.  Joel quickly jerked away to try and release himself, when...POP!  Jacob's tooth flew across the room!

Only these two!  They crack me up!

I could say that this was one of our more peculiar days...but we all know that wouldn't be the truth.  This was just another ordinary day in the lives of these peculiar people I call my family.

I love them...peculiarities and all.

Sep. 1, 2009 - My Sister Hannah by Jackie

This was written on a dry erase board in the classroom.

Hannah is a great and pretty sister.  She has blond hair, blue eyes and pink earrings.  She looks great in pink.  She is kind (most of the time) and likes dogs and horses.  She wants to be a vet when she grows up.  She does not want to be a writer.  One of her favorite foods is Mom's pot roast.  She doesn't really like Chili's chips.  I love her very much.  I'm glad she's my sister.

Aug. 2, 2009 - Hannah Funny

Overheard tonight in the kitchen:

Jackie needs to go downstairs in the basement to turn off the lights.  She doesn't want to go down there alone.  She asks Hannah to go with her, but Hannah is working on tomorrow's breakfast.

Jackie asks Joel to go down with her.  Joel says he is going to brush his teeth.  (First time he's ever volunteered to go do that.  There's a first time for everything I guess.)

I ask Joel to just go down with her since it will only take a minute.

Hannah cries out,  "Oh yes, Jackie so desperately needs a man!"

That girl cracks me up...
