Jan. 18, 2008 - 03 - Making the decision...
I am still very much in the "investigative" stages of deciding whether to homeschool our three children.
Here are some questions that I keep going over and over in my mind:
- Which curriculum or teaching style is the best for us?
- When would be the best time to start? I'm leaning towards next school year since my son will be finished Kindergarten in June.
- Am I really capable of "educating" our children?
- What type of support groups are available in my local area for homeschooling families?
- What are the "regulations" in our state for homeschool education?
As you can see I have quite a distance to go before coming to a true decision on this subject! I will continue to pray and ask God for his guidance on this subject as I have no doubt that He already has His plan!

I have read all three of your posts! I am praying for you! First and formost, pray for you husband, I am sure you do, but pray that his heart will be softened to what the Lord's will in his life! Which curriculum or teaching style is the best for us?
I recommend the book "The Way They Learn" by Cynthia Tobias. It can help you determine you and your child's learning style and from there you can decide if you should go with textbooks, unit studies etc.
When would be the best time to start?
Anytime is a great time! If you feel called and led then there is no reason to wait.
Am I really capable of "educating" our children?
If you can read then you are capable. Truly. The fact that you put so much consideration into the possibility says that you would be great.
What type of support groups are available in my local area for homeschooling families?
Do a Google for "homeschool co-op" along with your city name. Also checkout www.localhomeschool.com and see what you can find.
What are the "regulations" in our state for homeschool education?
Goto www.hslda.org to find out what the rules in your state are.

Welcome to HSB! I am fairly new to homeschooling also, into our third year and my daughter is 14. You should check out a few friends blogs that have younger children. Definitely check out the ones on here: westward, livingbyfaith, pottershand, mcgyver959701, tiany, marinemama (I think). and go to Home Where They Belong to watch the video and read some of the other mom's entries...I think you'll realize that homeschooling is the ONLY way to go with your kids.

Deciding to raise children as instructed by the Bible is a challenge fit for any family. Homeschooling is another challenge all together; one which deserves my fullest attention.
