Christmas and Fencing

Hi!  How was your Christmas?

Mine was great!  My cousins came over on Christmas Eve during the day.  We had lunch and played and then we went to my church for the Christmas Eve service.  After that was over my dad took them home and we went to my grandma's house.  I got to video tape and it was fun.  My grandma bought me Star War's Risk and I played it with my dad, my uncle Toby and my grandpa.

Uncle Toby won.  I was the first one to get out.  Oh well, I'll get better!

On Christmas morning I opened my presents.  I got Mousetrap, Junkyard Jalopy (from my sister funkymonkey), a TV and video chairs for my video closet mom and dad and making and a cool book call Battle.  It has every battle from the past in it.  After we opened our presents we went to church.  Then we went to my grandma's and we opened more presents and spent the day with our cousins, aunts and uncles.  I had a great Christmas.

Fencing lessons are still going on.  We have classes this week and last week.  We just took of Christmas Eve and will take off New Years Eve.  We are training to go to a tournament in Kentucky in Feb.

I passed the Bronze level of our Gold Blade program and boy am I glad that test is over.  We will start the Silver level in Jan.

I would love to hear what everyone is up to.  Post what you are doing below!

Where Did Christmas Ornaments Come From?

We have been studying Christmas traditions and where they came from.  For instance did you know that Christmas ornaments came from Medieval Play on Adam and Eve?  They couldn't find apples trees so they created Paradise Trees.  People loved them so much they decided to copy them.  Over the years people kept adding more and more goodies to the trees until finally they were so heavy with sweets the tree couldn't hold their weight.  A German glass maker decided to make glass ornaments.  They were called blups.

My grandma gives me an ornament every year.  This year I got a football player.

Does your family have a tradition?  I would like to hear about it so post below!

Science Experiments

Science experiments are fun!  We have been doing alot of them.  We made a greenhouse out of a milk carton.  We are also doing an experiment where we put radish seeds in 4 different environments to see which environment will do the best.   We made 2 tin foil plant pots.  One has just 2 plants in it.  The other has 12 plants in it.  I'll post in about the plants in a couple of days.

Here's a day of fencing

Here I am dressed and ready

Before a fencing bout you need to test the Bellguard on your weapon

(I have a epee)

The ref. is the guy that asks you when you are ready.  He says "Fencers Ready" and you must say "Yes or No"  I said "Yes" in this picture and am in my starting position.

I hope you enjoyed learning a little about fencing.  I will try to get some pictures of all of the equipment you have to wear when fencing and post that soon.

What I learned in History

We are reading about Lewis and Clark in history.  Lewis and Clark were sent on their journey by President Jefferson in 1803.  Making the keelboat took alot longer than expected so they didn't really get on their way when they wanted to.  It was closer to spring in 1804 before they really got going.  They had alot of hardships but they had good times too!

For science this week I had to go outside and pick a plant out of our garden.  Then I had to describe it in detail just like Lewis and Clark had to do.  President Jefferson told them to take really good notes because not alot about the West was known.  The found prairie dogs and flocks of pelicans.

Once Lewis and Clark came upon an island in the Missouri River covered with pelicans.  The river had a blanket of pelican feathers that was 3 miles long!  Lewis tried to shoot one of the pelicans but the mosquitos were so thick he couldn't even aim his rifle so he just shot.  Surprisingly, he hit one.

Well that all for now.  Not much about fencing today other than I had practice and I'm beat!

Hi! Welcome to my Blog.  My blog will have lots of fencing stuff on it because I spend so much time doing it and I love it!  I started fencing in the middle of May but I wanted to do it ever since I was 4 and saw it on ZOOM.  My mom and dad checked everyplace where I lived but they didn't have classes then.  This spring my mom saw an article in the newpaper about classes in my area so now I am able to take fencing classes instead of just swinging my light saber around. My sister also has a blog.  It is funkymonkey.  I hope you like the stuff in my blog!
