Wednesday morning, Brayton, my5 year old, woke up saying "I think I have hair in my eye." One look told me it was pink eye. I call and made an appointment for him to be seen by our Dr. While we were getting ready to go to the Dr. My 3 year old little girl Lorelei, said, "I wanna go to the Doctor, too." "But you are not sick." "But I am too, I have a tummy ache." "Go lay down. For a tummy ache we lay down and don't eat anything." I told her. "I have pink eye too." she replied. "No you don't, your eyes are fine." "Then, do I have purple eye?" she asked. She tried... to get her .... foiled again! Learning to be gracious...

When you have an 11 y.o. son and a 2 y.o. daughter, there is enough of an age gap that a relationship takes work. Lorelei told me that Dustin doesn't like her, and he has been short tempered with her, so we have been working on him spending time with her. Well, he baked cookies yesterday and after the first batch cooled, he took one to her and said "Here Lorelei, I baked this cookie just for you, it's a spcial one!" Lorelei crossed her arms and said "I don't want it" "But I made it just for you" "I don't want it" I told Dustin to just put it on a plate and leave it on the table for her. Then I said "Lorelei, when someone does something kind for you, you need to be thankful! Tell Dustin "Thanks Dustin, you're the best!" Lorelei looked at Dustin and said "Thanks Dustin, I'm the best!" We were so close...
My 5 year old son, Brayton came running into the kitchen last night holding his stomach and said" Mom! I was talking so fast, my stomach started hurting!" Mom's take all tummy aches seriously... so I told him to be very quiet and go to his room. After he left the kitchen, I laughed until I had tears in my eyes. Saturday Morning Breakfast

In our house, Saturday monrning breakfast is made by Dad, usually it is pancakes or waffles with bacon or sausage, sometimes, he will make eggs. This Saturday my 4 y.o. Brayton wanted waffles but Garrett (9 y.o.) wanted pancakes. So, the arguing ensued for a little while. Brayton then came up with a solution... Make bacon, eggs, pancakes AND waffles! When Brayton suggested this to Dad, he said, "But to make both, we would have to get 2 grills dirty." Brayton responded: "We have Mom and Lorelei. Get them dirty and make both!" You have to love the way a 4 year old thinks!! Just in case you are wondering, we had pancakes and bacon but no dirty "girls". Girlfriends are Fun!

All week long my family and I have been looking forward to the arrival and brief visit with our friends Jim, Shelley and their 8 children. I only have 5 children, 4 sons and my youngest is my only girl. Not having a sister, means that Lorelei doesn't get to just play and do "girl things" with other little people. Usually it is Mom who gets to play. Jim, Shelly, Audrey, Alysa, Daniel, Abby, John Paul, Nate, Chloe and Naomi finally arrived last night despite the fog and in time for supper. The children ate, played, exchanged gifts, ran, laughed, and had an exhausting time! At bed time, we put Lorelei (2) and Abby (6) in Lorelei's room, and then I listened. I listened to a friendship bloom. It was so fun, even though they were being a little naughty (not going to sleep). After one particularly loud round of laughter from their room, I opened the door and reminded them (in my best "mom voice") "Girls, we need to go to sleep." A few minutes later, giggles errupted again, so I opened the door, Lorelei looked at me and smiled. "Girlfriends are fun, aren't they?" I asked. "Yeeeeesss! And I am gonna keep Abby forever!" How sweet to watch!! It finally took Abby's Dad going in and quieting them down and a quick story from me.
May each of you have a very Blessed Christmas, and may each of you have your homes filled with those you love and want to "keep forever!" A Laundry Quandry

Yesterday, Lorelei (she's 2) was helping me with the laundry. She would pull things from the dryer and I would fold them and place them in their specific pile. I had my back to the dryer and I heard Lorelei saying "Ugh. Ugh. Ugh." over and over again. When I turned around, she was pulling a towel out of the dryer: "What are you doing?" I asked her. "I'm 'ughing' it out" she said. I just cracked up! Have a blessed day! Janie Introduction
