Music- part II

Hello everyone, did you miss me?  Well, wether  or not you did or didn't miss me, I'm home.  It was so much fun!  Toni got 1st place in Apologetics- (in which I got last place in all of my rooms) Beth and her debate partner Avery got 4th place in Team Policy Debate- (Me and Anna had fun debating- we won 2 debates, but lost the other 4 * sniff * )  Brian got 1st place speaker, (I think... and oh yeah, Brian is Toni's debate partner)  I forgot what place they got in debate, but it was real neat,    KG and David got 2nd place in debate, and there were others... but I forgot them.  In other words- everyone in ARC did great!  (So did everyone else who is not in ARC though... )  Now onto the musicall portian of this post.

Alright, I have discovered the true meaning behind music.  Music is not just a melody, played over in over in a different way with different harmonys- but music is a story.  A story that tells the life of a friend, your life, or whatever you want it to be the story of.  So, in my other post about writing music,  I said that everyone has a song, and it annoys me when the never write it down, you may have thought- "I can't write music, and I don't have a song!!!"  Welll- if you thought that, than let me ask you a question.  Are you alive?  Hopefully, yes.  As I said earlier, music is the story of someone's life.  Hence- anyone who thinks " I don't have a song!!! " is thinking, which obviously means, that they are alive, which means they have a story- which means, that they have a song.  The impact of this, is that every life, has a story, every story, has a song.  And the world would be a sad place, if people didn't take the time to write it.  Thankfully, people do write music, but because of that, people copy.  Its not wrong, its not bad, it just means, that there will be less and less music, that truely is- music, if people hear what other people write like, and try to copy, how they do it.  I used to try and write music like other peoples music- And when it didn't turn out the same, I was depressed because I could no longer write music like a used too.  Then I realized, that music is not supposed to sound like others, but music is the story, of your life.  No one is exactly the same, hence, no music should be exactly the same.  Anyways... I hope you enjoyed the post!

"If a composer could say what he had to say in words he would not bother trying to say it in music."
~Gustav Mahler

"Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent."
~Victor Hugo

"After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is Music."

~Aldous Huxley

That will be so great if we can meet! I am going to do piano and either singing or drama, haven't decided which one yet. My sister is doing drama and violin, and the other sister is doing flute. I can't wait to see you too!
Blessings,
Taylor
P.S. (when my Dad went to the AMB site, there was a video of the performance in TN, and I am positive I saw you it it playing the violin!)

That's fine about replying! I can understand busy schedules....

Yes, I did make the template. I'm sort of new to HTML, but I've been figuring stuff out slowly! ;-)

Let's see, I've been playing violin/fiddle for almost 8 years now, and I love it! I sure will keep fiddling! ;-)

That's neat that you do debate! It sounds like you enjoy it! I'll be starting debate next year and I'm looking forward to it.

Yep! You can add me to your friend's list... and I'll add you too!

Apr. 8, 2009 - A tribute to ARC

Posted by GraceElizabeth
Oh yeah, go ARC!

Ya know, ARC should have a song. A sort of motto set to music. We could sing it at tournaments and astonish everyone!

In the middle of Texas, there once was a club.
For like-minded students and friends.
And the primary focus of the A-R-C
Was speaking, debating, and... friends.

'Cause everyone knows it's extremely important
To know how to speak well these days.
And rhetoric is always a wonderful skill
Since it often can set hearts ablaze.

And whether we speak in interps or debate,
Platform, or limited prep,
ARC gives all the glory to Jesus our Lord,
And commits give Him our best.

Ta-da! Ok, I'm done being weird now.

Love ya!
~Grace

Grace, that was actually... um... cool. How many more stanzas could you write?

Katy, what you were saying about music is very true. It's just like trying emulate our friends and those around us. We can pick up good ideas about how to behave, but when it's time to be a person, only you can be the best Katy M.

When we write music, we can pick up ideas from our favorite composers, but only you can write like Katy M., no one else.

And yeah, I've heard your compositions before and thought they were cool.

@Paul:

Cool, you like it? I could write a ton- I mean, the meter is so easy, and there's lots of stuff to say about ARC, and NCFCA in general. I could write one or maybe two for every ARC/NCFCA-related subject.

But you really should have heard Paul Putman's 'tired debater' song. It was cool.

Apr. 16, 2009 - English Language

Posted by gelpenprincess
Yeah, I know, that's what I've always thought about the English language! What language do you learn? I learn Latin, I'm a tagalong on Emma's French lessons, and I'm gonna learn German in a few weeks. Languages are a bit of an obsession of mine. One of my dream jobs are a profeser of languages, but if I was working at a college, I wouldn't be able to homeschool my kids, so in reality, I couldn't really do it. But I'd major in languages anyway.

Apr. 16, 2009 - Aw...

Posted by gelpenprincess
Aw, don't feel bad! And, you're right, you're only a few days older than me! I really wanna learn Gaelic... I'm really Celtic-crazy. Well, I AM Celtic. My great-grandfather was off-the-boat Scottish and my great-grandmother was off-the-boat Irish. And my last name is Celtic, even though I'm not allowed to tell you, but you'll learn it at FASA if you're curious. Yeah, Rapunzel wants to learn sign language because some colleges accept it as a language. And if you really wanna learn Latin, then ask your mom or dad about LATINA CHRISTIANA (it's by Memoria Press). I've been doing it for two years and it works really well. It's very independent, you mostly teach yourself, but it makes it so easy. LATINA CHRISTIANA MEMORIA PRESS. It sounds like you've attempted more languages than me. Oh, I tried Japanese for a few weeks and I hated it so much that I threw it down almost immediately. I only remember ki means tree! =P
