Friday was our 1st co-op class for this semester. Taylor classes are A Mayan Experience and Oh, My Body! I am assisting in the Mayan class. The ages for these classes are K-2nd grade.
We started off with mapwork. We used a shower curtain map that was laid out in the floor and everyone crowded around. Dry erase markers work wonderfully on this. The kids all found the Yucatan Penninsula, Chitchen Itza, and Tikal. They learned about the difference between an island and a penninsula. After the shower curtain map, they each had a blank map to color.
We looked at a book about the Mayan people now, and then we read Rain Player. Sometime in all this I had to go get Isaac out of the nursery because he was crying for me and hiding under a crib in the corner. One of the wonderful things about homeschooling is you can bring your 2 year old into the class your teaching and no one bats an eye or thinks it's the least bit strange. I wonder how many teachers out in the 'real world' can bring their baby that needs them right along to work with them? Anyway, I was thankful to be able to do my duty in class and still be the Momma that he needed right then.
After story time, we got to play Pok-a-Tok. It's a Mayan ball game where you can not use your hands or feet. We had to modify it a bit, but the kids had fun and got the gist of it. Here's a few pics!
This one is Taylor and a friend trying to score a point while using their heads! After a couple of trys it did work. Each team had to come up with a new way to score each time.

This is a picture of snack time. They had bananas wrapped in corn tortillas and drizzled with honey.

This is Taylor trying to score in Pok-a-Tok using her knees. I don't think anyone actually made it this way.

We had lots of fun and can't wait until the next class!

Pok-a-Tok looks like fun!
Thank you so much for the prayers, my grandmother has some pretty big bruises and my two little cousins are fine. The one who was riding in the fornt is now scared to sit in the fornt seat.
