Making a Sarcophagus

Posted in School

We started our sarcophagus before we left for West Virginia.  I hadn't worked with paper mache since I was in elementary school.  Let me tell you, it was MESSY.

We left it to dry while we were gone.  When we got back, Taylor's had warped a bit because she used too much paper mache.  Now the lid doesn't fit on right and she is disappointed.  We will try to shape it and get it to stay on as best as we can.

Here are our boxiform sarcophagus's.  Isaac painted the box that he had made with John.

The idea and supplies for this project also came from the Hands and Hearts Ancient Egypt Kit.

We are still eagerly awaiting our mummies to dry.  We have changed the natron 2 or 3 times so far.  I don't think we will need to change it again.  We are just waiting for the mummy to get hard.  It has attracted a few gnats, but still smells very nice.  Click here to read the entry about making the mummy.

Once our mummies are dry, we will wrap them up and put them in their caskets.  Can't wait!
