The Movie begins somewhere in the artic circle where Jack Hall is doing research. Suddenly the whole ice shelf begins to break off, the beginning of things worse to come. Sam Hall is in a competition in New York with two school mates. As it starts raining for three days straight- New York is then flooded and the characters are forced into the public library where they stay- Sam manages to get ahold of his father and Jack tells him to stay indoors, as anyone who is outside in the storm is sure to die. Sam and his friends and a few listen to his advise but a foolish police-man leads hundreds of people to their death, thinking he knows better. Sam and the others hasitly bring stacks of books into the only room with a fireplace and begin to burn the ageless collection to stay alive. Meanwhile Sam's father is the only one heading North, to save his son. One day Laura (one of Sam's team mates) is struck ill, not knowing what is wrong with her the librarian says "books are good for other than just burning..." and asks for her symptoms...unfortunately, Laura had blood poisoning. Sam is desparate, with the extreme cold weather outside he and his friends make their way to the near-by ship that was grounded after the flood. They find the medicine but rabid wolves find them first. Just getting back to the library in time before freezing to death they shut the door and begin piling books on the fire. Jack, having made it all the way asks his partney Jason where the library is- Jason looks at him sadly "It's here" Jack looks around noticing the huge mountian of snow they are standing upon. Going down they search the rooms, almost becoming hopeless of finding anyone left alive, until being finially reunited with his son. As the weather clears the movie draws an end in Mexico and the world goes back to the way it was before.
I really like this movie, other than the whole global warming thing, it's a good tale. A strong story line, other than why the reason Jack has to go to New York- he just simply says "I have to do this..." I was confused on WHY he has to go there. Anyway, I give this movie a 5 out of 5 stars.
This movie is rated PG-13 for intense situations of peril. |
