Jul. 10, 2007 - Losing my Cool

I think this morning I broke my own record.  If you've read my post from many months back "Four-ring day" you know that I have an affinity for leaving coffee cups all over the house and never drinking a whole cup still warm.  This morning my coffe pot, which has a 2 hour shut off feature, shut off before I even poured one cup.  nice.

Yesterday it got up somewhere around 96 or 97, a tad warm.  Early evening I noticed it was a little warm in the house but kept on working.  By 8:30 I knew something was up.  It was over 85 degrees in the house!!  Our A/C had decided to take a break.  After fiddling with it for a while my husband convinced it to come back on.  Yes, I was sweatin' it.  If it goes over 75 in the house I get toasty.  Seriously, I can't sleep, or eat when I get too hot.  I can just sit and roast.  If I had lived a hundred years ago..... I would have been the one to invent air conditioning.

My parents came and went and we had a great time.  One night we went to a restaurant called Lambert's.  I believe there are only 3 in the US.  It is an experience.     The food is great southern cooking, they carry huge pots of things like fried okra, macaroni and tomatoes, and a fake oppposum arouund to serve as you want it.  The SWEET iced tea (is there any other kind of tea?) comes in a mug roughly the size of a gallon of milk (I'm not kidding)  They music was not my personal choice, but went with the atmosphere :)  But the funniest thing is that they throw you your rolls.  These are large, just out of oven, yeast rolls which are often stuck two or three together and they come out and yell, "Who wants rolls?!"  People start yelling and stand up or wave their arms and they start chunking rolls all over the room.  Our oldest got smacked in head twice with a nice hot one ! :) LOL  Fun memories.

Mom sewed a new nightgown for 5yodd and we played lots of games.  Dutch Blitz is one of my favorites.  Of course, it is one of the only ones I ever win...  We had a wonderful Independence Day Celebration.  The night before we sang many patriotic hymns and we read different scriptures about godly authority and government.  Then we watched "A More Perfect Union".  It is a very good movie, albiet from something of a Pro-Federalist position.  But that may be a very accurate portrayal of the sentiments of James Madison, whose perspective it is more or less from.  It is worth watching to realize how much the founding fathers had to hammer through to give us the Consitution that is now trampled on today.

The morning of the 4th we had a late big breakfast.  No parades. humbug.  Then another young couple came over and all of us cooked out, ate apple pie, had hilarious fun doing 'old-fashioned' races - three-legged race, egg and spoon race, sack race.  What made them so funny was watching the dads!  These are big guys - and there they are trying to hold a pillow case that comes up to their knees up while hopping around cones.  Yes, it's on video.   We went to church services and decided that being during the week that we would come home and shoot off some fireworks in the cul-de-sac.  The kids had fun with the sparklers and we all ate Bomb-pops.  Lastly, we watched  "The League of Grateful Sons".  I can heartily recommend this movie.  As with most things VIsion Forum it is very well done.  It was very moving, very convicting, very inspiring.  We all very much enjoyed it. Verily.

My mother, the organization extraordinaire, gave me her help in what to do to get this house ready to sell.  We basically need to move out first.  OK, maybe not, but let's just say I'll be decluttering and boxing up alot to put in storage.  So my work is cut out for me.  Over the next 4-6 weeks I will spend the mornings doing school planning and then the rest of the day working on the house.  I just got my Veritas book order, Home Science Tools and really cute baby bedding :)  Still waiting for the grand star of homeschool UPS fame - The Rainbow Resource Order.

Well, time to pick up the boys from 4-H Shooting Sports camp and then eat lunch and go to art class.  Tonight is IEW viewing night (postponed b/c of a board meeting) so busy day.  But that's alright, as long as the A/C keeps working!!

Nice to read your catch me up. It has been really hot here.. though we live in FL so I guess that goes with the territory.

I've seen that restaurant mentioned on TV. Sounds like a lot of fun.

Stay cool

I hope your A/C is still working. It's pouring rain here (of course) but the older I get, the more humidity really bugs me. The kids don't mind but they were born here, they don't know anything else! I hope things go well with preparing to move and I hope you sell the house as quick as you need to. Take care!
