Lies Women Believe Revisted - Aug. 11, 2009
Posted in Things to Ponder
I’m reading Lies Women Believe again. I don’t feel that I was intentional in my reading the first time around. The book was on loan from the library, my time was limited, and I didn’t use a study guide to dig deeper. If you are not familiar with the book, you need to be. The author, Nancy Leigh DeMoss does a wonderful job exposing areas of deception believed by Christian women. Ms. DeMoss sheds light on the lies we believe about ourselves, about sin, about marriage, about our emotions, and about our circumstances. Along the way, the reader is shown God’s Truth as the most effective weapon against Satan’s deceptions. I want to share with you a little of what I read today in Chapter One.
The chapter is entitled “Truth…or Consequences,” and teaches about finding the lies in order to uncover the Truth, almost like the Cat in the Hat’s Calculatus Eliminatus: Discover what isn’t Truth in order to learn what is Truth. However, desiring to find the Truth is a lot easier than the actually doing.
“Sadly, most people—even Christians—have unthinkingly exposed themselves to so much deception that they do not even realize they are being deceived. That is the nature of deception—it blinds us to the fact that we have been deceived.”
So true! We are so deceived that we don’t even know the depths to which we have fallen for the lies. I believe we fall because it’s easier to buy the lie than to take the time to ask if the message presented in that song, that book, or that advertisement is really true.
Most of us already know that Satan in the Father of Deception, but Ms. DeMoss digs deeper to expose not only Satan’s lies but the strategy behind those lies, and why we are so susceptible to them. Many of her views are probably not popular with the average “modern woman,” but I’ve come to realize that I don’t mind being a reformed feminist. I am still “woman, hear me roar,” but now I have an appreciation for the depth of meaning and purpose behind my roar now that I’m under the spiritual covering and protection of both God and my husband.
As you can see, I’m excited about reading this study again and digging deeper into God’s Truth. I hope to share more as I go along, but I don’t want to give away too much. That wouldn’t be fair to you or the author. However, I bet your library has a copy of Lies Women Believe. You can do like I did and take it for a test drive before buying.
Thanks for stopping by!

I want to thank you soooooooo much for your comment. (((HUGS))) It looks good for me to say no to my MIL. I have my hubby backing up for support. We have been involved last year and this year in saving seed for our family buissness. It is too much for me and my hubby. I just found out it is too much for my MIL too. We haven't said anything yet but will in this coming week. We will be telling her that we cannot help with it and would also like to grow more food instead. Please if you think of it please pray for us as we have to go through this trasition and letting go of what is too much. Thank you for your encouraging words.
Blessings and ((HUGS)) my SSiC

This is one of my favorite books of all time! I read it on my own after buying, then again with a ladies study at my church. I've loaned it to friends in the past and often refer to it. I agree that most women would be offended by much of what Nancy says, but it doesn't make it any less true! I think I may read it again as a refresher. You're re-sparked my enthusiasm about this book.
Oh, and her website has audio clips of her daily radio show - which is absolutely wonderful. www.reviveourhearts.com.
Grace and peace to you and yours!
