Weekly Wrap-up 8/30-9/05 - Sep. 6, 2009

With the Lord
I am still working through the Book of John. I came across this verse: “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled him.” John 6:65. What an interesting circle God created with this statement! In John 14:6, Jesus says, “No one comes to the Father except through me.” Therefore, you cannot go to God without Jesus, but you cannot go to Jesus without God. Just a little something to noodle around a bit.
On the Homefront
I am going to need a vacation from all of the planning and preparations for vacation! We are going camping in two weeks, but we haven’t been camping in about two years. So, we have to pull everything out, check it over, and either clean it up, replace it, or repack it. Actually, it’s been kind of fun. However, my poor house is in a constant state of chaos, worse than usual! But it’ll be worth it.
I also want to share my bargain of the week. I’ve been scouring Freecycle and Craig’s List for either an exercise bike or a treadmill. Colleen and I have a lot of reading to do for school. We stand a better chance of staying awake through it if we’re moving. However, the Freecycle ones are always grabbed quickly, and the ones on Craig’s List are out of my price range. I was about to give up, but my hubby came to my rescue…again. He spotted one at a yard sale…for $20! It’s just your basic electronic treadmill, but it works, and it was in the budget! I have such and sweet hubby.
In the Schoolroom
We started the new school year this week. Sort of. You see, we don’t start off working on every subject the first week. We start with two plus recreational reading, and then each week we add to the list. This week, Colleen began her two virtual classes and Jared worked on Geography and Science with a page of math problems to maintain skills. Next week, we’ll add more classes. By the end of September, we’ll be in the full swing of things and found a rhythm in our schedule. Well, that’s the plan anyway.
On the Exercise Mat
I was very bad about exercising this week. The first week of school is always a little hectic for us. Hopefully, the new treadmill will help.
From the Library
No fun reading for me right now, but I am working on Paradise Lost for my British Literature class, and Earth Democracy for my environment class. I think you can understand my need for a treadmill now.
On the Creative Side
My creating and crafting had been a little light over the summer, but I’ve picked up my crochet hook once again. I’m working on a shawl for me and my daughter to fight over. I’m also sewing a bag out of scraps of denim for all my school books. I need something a bit sturdier than those cloth grocery bags.
In the Garden
Still quiet in the garden. The butterfly garden has been weeded and trimmed, the vegetable garden is still covered in plastic, and hubby’s seedlings are almost ready to go in the ground. We’ll be planting the fall garden at the end of September.
Thank you for stopping by. These Weekly Wrap-ups are a nice way to get to know each other, so be sure to stop by Carol’s Blog to read a few others and by all means, post one of your own. I’d love to see what you’ve been up to!

Hi Betty,
That insight from the book of John was pretty neat. I hadn't ever noticed the connection before you posted about it. It's always neat to find little insights like that, isn't it?
I hope your school year is productive, fun, blessed, and stress-free. (Well, ok, I know hs'ing isn't alway stress-free, but we can always hope for it, can't we?)
:-)

Guess what? I have NEVER been camping. I think I'd enjoy it, but I can see that the prep work is tremendous. I hope you have a wonderful time of fun and relaxation - to make up for all the chaos of getting ready!
Yes, Colleen's work load looks very rigorous!!! If she considers it "fun", then I say "cool"! Have a wonderful start to the school year.

You covered all the bases. What a bargain on the treadmill! It must be nice just starting a couple of classes at a time. I can't wait till my kids are old enough to be doing more independent work.
Hope you are having a good week.
