Jan. 7, 2008 - Back to Routine

Saturday was a fun day.  We had 3 basketball games in the morning.  They were in the same location - didn't want you to think I was superwoman - I'm not.   Two of the games were at the same time on side by side courts - I felt like I was watching tennis - back & forth, back & forth. :)  It was lots of fun though and the girls had a great time

Saturday afternoon we had our final family Christmas celebration.  How fun - we had a family Christmas celebration at the beginning of Dec., 2 on Christmas Day (3 counting our one at home), and then finally the last one, appropriately on the day before Epiphany.  It was a fun celebration - full of parents/grandparents, siblings, & cousins.  We also had a sweet prayer time before our meal, yummy food, & fun presents.

Sunday was back to the normal schedule at church.  Sunday night the pastor gave a message that I really needed to hear.  (Truth be told, I was not very excited to get back into our normal routine - meaning "seatwork".)  He talked about how God works in the routine.  Special times are wonderful but God designed it so that most of the witnessing we do is in the context of living our normal day to day life.  He pointed out that it's not really biblical to live with our focus being "getting through" to the next event.  If we live that way, we'll miss out on the opportunities He's given us today.  "This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." Psalm 118:24.  Finally, another thing that really made an impression on me was the pastor's point that God designated the Sabbath as a day of rest because He created the world in 6 days and rested on the 7th.  He made the point that God worked those 6 days & enjoyed His work.  God's focus wasn't getting through the work to get to the day of rest (something that I know I've done).  I'd never really thought about it that way before.  Anyway, it was a great message and just what I needed to hear.

Today we did get back into routine and it was a great day.  The weather has been beautiful.  It had been so cold (at least to me) but the last couple of days were very spring-like.  Today the girls worked on their seatwork in the morning.  After lunch we went outside to work on our history & science.  Some of the girls enjoyed their reading time outside too.  It was a beautiful day.

This afternoon the girls went to their first dance class.  It's an inspirational ballet class that seems perfectly suited to our family.  (It helps that we know lots of people taking it too.) :)  The girls really enjoyed it.

Hope you're all enjoying your new year also.

In His love.
