Scary moment at the store

I had one of those 'horrible moments as a parent' tonight.
You know, the kind where your heart stops for a minute, and afterwards you just feel sick to your stomach....

We had gone out shopping at our local Sam's Club.  Katie had been riding in the cart, and I turned for just a few seconds to look at a cookbook on the shelf, and then I heard "it".......
That sickening, hollow 'melon being dropped' sound that can only mean one thing....
your child's head has hit the concrete floor.....HARD!

The next few seconds were almost like slow motion as I turned to see Katie lying there motionless staring up at the ceiling with her eyes open wide...not making a sound....it was truly horrifying!

Thank the Lord the silence was shortlived....she started screaming within seconds.
I immediately scooped her up, expecting there to be blood (or worse) everywhere.
Miraculously...there was none.

Katie must have had extra angels watching over her tonight, as she really doesn't even have much of a bruise or a bump,  (but she IS pretty sore!)

I feel like a horrible parent for not watching her closer though,
and I can pretty much guarantee that she (or Annie) won't be riding in any shopping carts any time soon!

UPDATE:   Well, the bump just took a little while to form.   This morning Katie has a huge 'goose egg' , and so we are going to the Dr. to get it checked out .....just to be safe.

Praise God she is okay. I have had those moments. Though short lived, at the time felt like forever. My 11 yr old son, when he was only about 2 and a half years old got away from me at a super wal mart! They had to do a code adam. It was aweful. A clerk found him next to the exit at the spot where all the little rides are!!! He is safe, okay and unscarred from that. God set His angels watch over our little ones. I am so glad your little one is okay. Be blessed,
Stacy

Oh Michelle, that is terrible. I can FEEL that eternal second that it took for you to hear the sound and see your daughter lying on the floor. (My sweetie 4-yo just said, Mommy let's pray for her! We did. --tears in my eyes)

I had a similar experience with my baby in Walgreens. I RARELY ever left the handle of the car seat up -- normally I would have pushed it back after I locked her into the cart, but the Lord knew what was going to happen that day. You know, Walgreens has those smaller carts, not grocery sized. The car seat was hooked onto the top of the cart and my 6 yo was pushing her. 6yo did a fast (always fast, that one) U-turn in the aisle. The cart was top-heavy and fell over; the car seat went flying and landed upside-down on its handle. My baby never even hit her head. But my heart absolutely stopped. And I think I got 2000 gray hairs! I thanked God over and over again!!! (And I made the 6 yo slow down!!!!!!!!!)

Okay, that was my horror story. All you moms with little babies, beware of those little carts combined with fast older siblings!
